(HELSINKI, FINLAND) — For twelve years the sExhibition Erotic Fair in Helsinki, Finland, has provided to local and international Scandinavian audiences just about everything there is to experience in the world of erotica. And more.
Because it’s not only all the celebrated shows that make the happening unique: It’s the mixture of cosy restaurants, wild live music, theatre, humour, peep shows, dance, panel discussions which are in turns intelligent, educating and funny and last but not least the top level technical production and high media attention.
And it works! Last year over 25.000 paying customers visited the three day event! Articles about it appeared, not only in men’s magazines, but also in all major newspapers. Local and national radio stations ran stories and daily reports about it. On TV the most talked about live talk shows have covered it (and doing so increased their ratings) for seven years running.
All this is partly explained by the event’s good reputation among media and customers. It’s not only a business to business kind of thing, it’s something that attracts a wider audience. The people who you normally wouldn’t see showing their interest in erotics in public. Like, imagine a gay weather forecaster first going public about his sexuality, and then accepting the award (a two feet long, gold plated dildo) for ‘the Erotic Highlight of the Year’ on sExhibition press conference with a sincere and confident smile. It is both liberating and funny.
Another explanation behind the success of the event may be the international actors, artists and celebrities sExhibition has directly or indirectly brought over and to public attention in Finland: Sarah Young, Ebony Ayes, Lynn LeMay, Cassandra Curves, Monique Cove’t, Sasha Gabor, Jill Kelly, Brittany Andrews, Bianca Jordan, Ginger Lynn, Midori and Kylie Ireland, Sophie Evans with Toni Ribas to mention but a few.
