For over 35 years now — longer than most of the current participants have been alive — The Ponderosa Sun Club has put on a beauty pageant that has evolved into the biggest and most popular award event for feature entertainers and models in America.
A garter-attached number is the official dress for this contest, which titillates every one of the thousands of wide eyes and smiling faces present at this wonderful event. Nudes-a-Poppin is the longest running all-nude beauty pageant in America today.
The grounds of the Ponderosa Sun Club are spacious, with parking in several grassy fields on the property. A stage was set up on one side of a 65′ wide by 120′ long swimming pool, which had a chain link fence around it and a supple lawn area with a VIP trailer at one end. The sound equipment was behind the stage under a canvas awning for shade. There was a panel of judges seated in front of the stage. All competitions are voted on by the judges. VIP seating was in front of the stage on the outside of the fence.
A number of small platforms with stripper poles were located around the inside of the fenced-in perimeter of the pool and stage area where the girls would rotate from one platform to the next for pictures, and to please the crowd with dance moves. The thousands of fans thronged all around the entire fenced-in area to catch an eyeful of the lovely ladies exhibiting their best pole tricks and poses in the nude. Some shooters outside the fence brought step ladders to put them on an unobstructed level with the girls on the platforms. The entire day was one big photo-op!
I got there Sunday, July 18 after 8:00 am when the gates opened to the public. I missed Saturday’s festivities while covering the Exxxtacy Show in Chicago.
My first impression of Nudes-a-Poppin… I’m awestruck by literally thousands of people, the scent of sunscreen in the air, and the beautiful naked girls milling around inside the enclosed area before the show got under way.
At 10:00 the show started. Between 10 and 12 the Miss Nude Rising Star Competition took place, followed by the Miss & Mr Nude Go-go competition, Miss & Mr Nude Entertainer, Miss & Mr Nude North America, then Miss Nude Galaxy, and Miss Nude Internet contests.
At noon the celebrities took the stage. Ron Jeremy, Dennis Rodman, Sunny Lane, Adara Michaels, Freak, and Tony Batman. Ron Jeremy, obviously a man of many talents, came out playing a harmonica. Adara Michaels appeared in a stunning black dress. Sunny Lane, hotter than the noon day sun, brightened the show by flashing and pumping up the crowd. Denis Rodman joined them all on stage holding a can of beer in his hand which looked unusually small, being dwarfed by the enormous size of his hand.
Adara Michaels and Sunny Lane also each had a private trailer to rest in out of the sweltering heat and humidity where the fans could line up and get autographs and pictures taken with them.
I was impressed by the die-hard fans who, when clouds blew in and the rain poured over everyone, stayed right there in front of the stage cheering the show and getting drenched. The thousands of people weren’t dispersed by the sudden torrential downpour, which compared to the heat and humidity actually felt pretty good! The only thing I could keep dry was my camera, and I finally got under a pavilion to wait out the monsoon.
The rain stopped just in time for Jaded Dawn to take the stage in a flapper costume from the 1920’s that would not have withstood the rain. Some of the other stage shows were by Koyotee J, who had vampire fangs and covered herself in bright red ‘blood’ during her routine, and Jaycee Tama as a cop in a cardboard patrol car pulling over and arresting/molesting a girl.
At one point a dark-skinned beauty with braids, who when taking off her shirt was so cute, that the emcee invited her up on stage and into the inner area where she walked around topless the rest of the day. A nice pair will get you places!
And since I’m on the subject of boobs (my column is, after all, called ”The News Rack”) the story I’m writing wouldn’t be complete without giving credit to some of these lovely ladies with magnificent melons. Concurrently with the stage show, Tony Batman emceed the Amateur Wet T-shirt Contest in ”The Pit,” an area that looked like it was bleachers built into the ground with railroad ties. Once wet, the T-shirts didn’t stay on long! With an official squirter with a hose to wet down the girls, and plenty of civilians present to take part, the noise from the crowd cheering rivaled the noise from the main stage.
The day culminated at 6pm with the Awards Presentation, listed in totality below. The three big winners were Naomi Knight as Miss Nude North America (Feature Beauty) 1st Place, Dakota Skye as Miss Nude Entertainer of the Year 1st Place, and Franchesca as Miss Nude Galaxy (Club Beauty Pageant) 1st Place.
The next Nudes-a-Poppin will take place on July 16 and 17, 2011 — the weekend after the Exxxtacy Show in Chicago on July 8-10, 2011. I hope Scarlet and the Ponderosa Sun Club will have a booth there to promote the 2011 Nudes-a-Poppin the following week.
If you are over 18 years old and are not offended by nudity (and if you are why are you reading this) Nudes-a-Poppin is a must-see event! Reasonable ticket prices for the days events and its the only time of year that cameras are allowed on premises. The Ponderosa Sun Club is about an hour and a half from Chicago. It was a really great experience, and exceeded my expectations, to cover the Nudes-a-Poppin show this year.
