Myles’ Weekend Adventures: AVN AEE 2018

Bonjour mon amis! Comment ca va? Myles Shaffer here. This column will be about the annual AVN Adult Entertainment Expo and related events.

But first, I must say that in my last column, I stated that the next of my adventures would be going to a club to see Anna Bell Peaks. Well, due to circumstances including a bit of cold, damp, weather, that didn’t happen. Hopefully, it will not be too long a time before I will get another opportunity to observe Anna in action.

AVN AEE

Tuesday morning, January 23, I hit the road to Las Vegas to pick up my press credentials, check into a motel, and begin attending the AVN Adult Entertainment Expo the next day.

While wandering around the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino, I ran into Kiki D’Aire, industry photographer Dominic, industry photographer Rick Garcia, Tod Hunter, Tom Manning, industry photographer Gordon Mui, adult talent agent Mark Spiegler, and Anthony Tecchio.

At one point in the afternoon, my editor-in-chief, Steve Nelson, introduced me to Dennis Paradise who is the head of Paradise Marketing.

Dennis was accompanied by Victoria June. It was my first-time meeting Victoria. I believe she is fairly new to the industry, but I could be wrong. All I know is that I had never met her before and was not familiar with her name.

As I was leaving the press room and heading for the closest elevators, I met and spoke with Whitney Wright.

I ended up waiting around until Steve, (Remember Steve?) arrived to register and pick up his press badge. Once that was done, we went to check into the motel where we shared a room. Once that was accomplished, we went to Big AL’s Oyster Bar for a big bowl of their Louisiana Gumbo. After eating, it was back to the motel to prepare for the following day and to get some rest.

Wednesday, January 24, AVN AEE

On this day, I attended the first day of what in my opinion is the biggest and best convention that is dedicated to the adult film industry. Of course, I am speaking of the AVN Adult Entertainment Expo.

The people I saw in attendance on this day that I knew or have at least met before were: Asa Akira, Anikka Albrite, Bridgette B., Briana Banks, James Bartholet and Foxxy, (I have no idea who Foxxy is. This was my first time meeting her.) Raven Bay, (At least I think it was Raven that I saw walking by.) Jayden Cole, Summer Day, Ana Foxxx, Rich Hansen (founder, publisher, and editor of GlamorGirl Magazine), Dillion Harper, Nina Hartley, Allie Haze, publicist Erika Icon, Jessica Jaymes, Jesse (formerly Jesse Jane), Kayden Kross, Sunny Lane, Marcus London, Mr. Marcus, Phoenix Marie, Syren De Mer, Norah Nova, Maddy O’Reilly, Anna Bell Peaks, Romi Rain, Bailey Rayne, Tee Reel, industry photographer Ricky Rich, Sinn Sage, Luna Star, Alexis Texas, Sarah Vandella, Jack Vegas, and Whitney Wright (Remember Whitney? I met her the day before after picking up my press badge.)

The people I saw for my first time were: Sienna Hills, Ivy Jones, Alex More, Valentina Nappi, Giselle Palmer, Riley Reyes, Fawn Rose, Vienna Rose, Lisey Sweet, and Dee Williams.

Thursday, January 25

Naturally, this was the second day of the Expo which I of course attended.

The people I saw on this day that I knew or had at least met before were: Curtis Baker, Mercedes Carrera, Adriana Chechik, Charlie Comet, Alana Evans, Karen Fisher, Sophia Grace, Max Hardcore, Eva Long, Katie Morgan, Nikki Phoenix, Teagan Presley, September Reign, the former owner of the now defunct Sardo’s Grill and Lounge Seymour Satin, Lucky Star, Natalia Starr, Evan Stone, Kyle Stone, Jay Taylor, the Original Tommy Gunn, Heather Vahn, and Kimber Woods.

The people I saw for the first time ever were: Alloy Ash, Casey Ballerini, Noemie Bilas, Summer Chase, Makayla Cox, Naughty Ginger, Alexa Grace, Hannah Hays, Anya Ivy, Miss Jade, Katy Jayne, JoJo Kiss, Jade Kush, Sandra Leberc, Britney Light, Laila Mayhem, Athena Palomino, Jessica Rex, Alison Rey, Shona River, Amara Romani, Crystal Rush, Pauley Shore, (Yes. None other than actor and comedian Pauley Shore was there on this day wandering around and speaking with the adult industry ladies. [There was a good-looking woman walking with him, but I have no idea who she might have been.]) Ember Snow, Veinna Starr, August Taylor, the Brat Dolls of Atlanta, Georgia, (Dakota Charms, Anabelle Pyne, and Brittany Shae [They have an Internet radio show.]), Hadley Viscara, Fallon West, and Skylar Xtreme.

By the way, I still haven’t met Pauley Shore in person. I didn’t want to lose my place in line to say hello to and get a few hugs from Adriana Chechik, and Pauley Shore had long since disappeared by the time I got up to Adriana, and I never saw him again.

Carnal Comedy

At approximately 6:15PM, Katie Morgan informed me that the Carnal Comedy Show was to start earlier that it had in the pass, and that I had about forty-five minutes to get to my car and drive to Sapphire Gentlemen’s Club if I didn’t want to miss any of the show.

I arrived and was seated just as a hilarious video clip was starting to kick off the show.

After the video clip had ended, Kaloni Kokonuts, performed one of her amazing burlesque style shows.

After Kaloni was finished, the producer and hostess of the show Rebecca Bardoux entertained the audience for several minutes and then introduced Rebecca Love. Rebecca then proceeded to deliver a very funny monologue.

Once Rebecca had finished, Ferrari Calamari, who was actually Kurt Lockwood in disguise, took the stage.

Next up was Kyle Stone whose monologue was so funny as ever.

Following Kyle was, “The Magic of Mondre.” Mondre is an excellent magician.

After Mondre’s magic show had ended, Sasha Heart presented an award to Nina Hartley. Nina then performed her monologue.

(Unfortunately, I am having a bit of a memory problem. For the life of me, I cannot remember exactly what Nina’s award was, where it came from, or whether Sasha presented it before or after Nina’s monologue. However, I do believe the awards was some type of a lifetime achievement award, and I believe Sasha presented it to Nina before Nina delivered her monologue.)

Once Nina was finished, Evan Stone delivered his hilarious style of comedy.

To finish the show, Ron Jeremy took the stage to make the audience roar with laughter.

Some people I know who were in the audience during the show were: adult talent agent Chris Cain and will Ryder/Jeff Mullin. (will is an adult film director, and that is just one of the many hats he wears within the adult entertainment industry.) Another person who was in the audience was a lady I haven’t seen for years. I am speaking of former adult film star and feature dancer Chloe. As it turned out, Chloe was sitting at a table directly behind me during the show.

I wish to again thank Chloe for the glass of diet soda and the pieces of pizza she graciously offered to me. It saved me from having to find a McDonalds drive through after the show. (by the time the show had ended and I got to my car, none of the places I like to eat in Las Vegas would have still been open.)

Friday, January 26

Yes, I attended the third day of the AVN AEE.

During this day, the people I saw whom I knew or had at least met before were: Mick Blue, Cory Chase, Vicki Chase, Mia Malkova, industry jack-of-all- trades Jay Moyes, Misty Stone, Kasey Storm, and Carmen Valentina.

The people I met for the first time were: Eve Batelle, Irene Boss who works with Jay Moyes, Sasha Heart, Shanelle Love, Amilia Onyx, and Anna De Ville.

Come 4PM on this day, I was feeling so light-headed and unsteady on my feet, I made my way to the Dunkin Donut Shop where I bought a cold bottle of water and sat down at a table. (I was charged ten dollars for that bottle of water. If I had walked across the street to the Cvs, it would have cost me only two to three dollars. I guess the owners of the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino don’t think they are rich enough!)

I sat there sipping my costly bottle of water for approximately two and a half hours. (I was also chatting with two complete strangers who had joined me at the table.)

When I finally left the Dunkin Donut Shop, I walked by the Joint, looked in and saw that it was still a madhouse at a quarter to seven, and decided to not go in. I then walked into the entrance to the Muse Hall just far enough to snap a couple of photos of Misty Stone. Once I had shot the photos, I looked farther into the hall and saw that it too was still a madhouse. (I didn’t even bother to take a look into the Artist Hall.) So, I left, went to my car, and returned to my motel room and climbed into bed without eating anything. That is how light-headed, unsteady, and exhausted I was feeling.

Saturday, January 27

As if the readers couldn’t guess, this was the final day of the Expo. Unfortunately, I didn’t attend the last day of the Expo for good reason. When I woke up and got out of bed that morning, I knew that I was in no shape to attend the event even though it was only five hours long that day.

About mid-afternoon, Steve stood up from his bed and announced that he was going to go to a nearby emergency room. I stood up from my bed and said, “I’m going with you.”

We soon learned from the E.R. staff that we both had Influenza. Now isn’t that a wonderful way to end an otherwise great week!?

The on duty E.R. doctor wanted to hospitalize me overnight but couldn’t assure me that I would be released in time to get back to the motel to load my car and get checked out on time. Therefore, I promised the good doctor that if worse came to worse, I would drive straight to the Huntington Memorial Emergency Room, and that if I could make it all the way home, I would go see my doctor on Monday morning which I did. I then signed the paperwork to get myself released against the doctor’s advice.

Sunday, January 28

I loaded my car and checked out of the motel. I then went to a nearby Arco Am/PM to fill my cup with Diet Pepsi. Once I was finished with that, I drove up to the North Las Vegas Pilot Travel Center to fill my fuel tank. After leaving the Pilot, I headed home with pit stops at the Baker Arco Am/PM, the Barstow Pilot Travel Center, and the Hesperia Pilot Travel Center.

(in the last week, I have learned of two adult film stars who also came down with the Flu during or right after the AVN AEE. That makes at least four of us.)

Other than catching the Flu, this year’s AVN AEE was another great event full of beautiful women, interesting people, and lots of fun. I am looking forward to next year’s event. Hopefully, I won’t get sick the next time.

What a shame I was not in better shape. If I had been, I could have gone to clubs to see feature entertainers perform every night starting Wednesday through Saturday night.

Yes, there were features performing in one or more clubs every one of those nights.

Speaking of features, the Exotic Dancer Invitationals West Competition will be held April thirteenth through the fifteenth at Centerfolds Cabaret located across Paradise Road from the Las Vegas Hard Rock Hotel and Casino.

Anybody who might be in the Las Vegas, Nevada area during those dates and likes to watch feature dancers perform should do their best to attend at least one night of the competition. I’m certain they would enjoy it. I myself am hoping to be able to make the drive to take in at least part of the competition if not all three nights.

That is all for now good people. Let us all meet back here the next time to speak of more sexy women. Until then, everybody stay safe, have a great week, and live life as if there were no tomorrow!

Bonsoir et au revoir,

Myles Shaffer
