Momentum Anthology

(NEW YORK, NY) — Just as Idaho’s Senate, in a frighteningly Orwellian twist, approved a measure that would require women seeking abortions to have mandatory ultrasounds, the Momentum Conference just announced the publication of their anthology, Momentum: Making Waves in Sexuality, Feminism and Relationships, Selected Essays by 2012 Speakers Advocating Change in Current Sexual Dialogues, with a foreword by former US Surgeon General, Dr. Joycelyn Elders. The book is available for purchase now at Amazon.com (amzn.to/GEProt).

At this time in our nation’s history, the dearth of quality sex education combined with more and more restrictions being placed on birth control and abortion, is creating what’s been called a war on women. The Momentum conference’s goal is to create a space for educated perspectives and intelligent conversations about the many and varied issues that compromise sexuality from a feminist point of view. Momentum’s anthology attempts to share these nuanced perspectives with a larger audience thereby changing the dialogues we have about sex on a national, and global, level.

With this ground-breaking anthology, the editors and authors hope to start the conversations that will ultimately lead to the end of the silence and shame that often surrounds sex. Knowledge is power and these essays will educate and empower the reader. As Dr. Elders says in her foreword, “The best contraceptive in the world is a good education. It is important to have a population that is well educated and informed about sex, sexuality, and sexual health concerns, through age-appropriate, scientifically based universal sexual education across the lifespan.”

A political climate that advocates restrictions on the availability of birth control or its coverage by medical insurance and seeks to ban or make getting an abortion as difficult as possible and yet limits sex education does a huge disservice to its population. Momentum’s anthology, along with our annual conference held on March 30 to April 1, 2012, in our nation’s capital, is our contribution to fighting this dangerous climate by generating waves that are far reaching.

If you wish to attend Momentum, registration is still open and tickets are still available.

Momentum will cover a wide range of viewpoints on sexuality, and the program is sure to have something of interest to everyone. The conference will be held at the Crystal City Marriott at Reagan Airport. Momentum brings together the best people in their fields of the LGBTQ, sex-work, BDSM and non-monogamous communities. Speakers will discuss ways to bridge the baffling dichotomies our culture creates around sexuality.

Each participant in Momentum will leave the conference with new perspectives, new connections and a plan to carry the Momentum forward into 2012 and beyond.

Pre-registration is required to attend Momentum. Go to momentumcon.com or momentumcon.com/registration/ for registration.
