(LOS ANGELES, CA) — The blockbuster remake of the adult film classic “The New Devil in Miss Jones” from Vivid Entertainment will premiere around the world September 21st, with adult mega star and Vivid Girl Jenna Jameson playing the Devil and Vivid Girl Savanna Samson in a riveting portrayal of Miss Jones. Georgina Spelvin, who starred in the original 1973 Gerard Damiano film, also has a role in the new film.
With a budget far higher than other adult movies and dazzling sex scenes woven together with a thought-provoking story line, “The New Devil in Miss Jones” blurs the viewer’s perception of what appears to be hyper-realism with evocative fantasy sequences. As Ms. Devlin, the Devil, Jameson captures the mood when she tells a horror-struck Justine Jones, “things seem a little bit mixed up, don’t they?”
Vivid has produced translations of the new film in a three-disc DVD set that will be released simultaneously in five different languages – English, Spanish, French, German and Italian?. In the U.S., “The New Devil in Miss Jones” will be promoted with a campaign that includes a billboard in Times Square and a release party in New York City on September 29th at top night spot Crobar. The New York Times has already previewed the film in an August 7 article by Mireya Navarro headlined “The Devil is Still in,” which appeared in the Arts & Leisure section of the newspaper. Genesis magazine is producing an exclusive 32-page supplement devoted to the movie, which will be on the newsstands September 27th.
Director Paul Thomas, who has won more awards than any other adult movie maker, says it is the best film he’s ever made and viewers should be prepared for “lots of amazing sex and a powerful plot with a stunning twist at the end.”
Samson — who endured snakes slithering over her body, actual piercings of her breasts, eating fire at the end of a sword, and other Devil-induced indignities while making the film — said it was more of a challenge to her acting talent than any previous film. In one scene she makes love with Jameson in a half-full trash dumpster and in another snakes were released onto her body. “I was truly terrified,” she says, “But I loved every minute of making this movie.”
“I couldn’t pass up the opportunity to do a remake that would be an homage to one of the great adult classics,” said Steven Hirsch, co-founder and co-CEO of Vivid. “It’s a universally appealing title with a suspenseful story line and powerful dialog to go along with the amazing sexiness that Jameson and Samson bring to the production. Jenna is without equal in the adult industry, and indeed she has transcended the X-category and is now a mainstream icon. Savanna is a gorgeous and talented actress with an irrepressible sensuality that is so right for the Miss Jones role.”
Spelvin, now nearing 70, came out of retirement to play a role as a malevolent chambermaid in the new version of the movie that made her famous. The Texas-born Ms. Spelvin retired from adult film making in 1982 and now lives in Southern California, where she has been working on her steamy memoirs.
An early review of the movie in AVN Magazine says “5A’s… the Perfect Film.”
Vivid Entertainment will market the new film in a special DVD package that includes the original film and a full complement of behind-the-scenes footage plus commentary by Jameson, Samson, Spelvin and Thomas. An arresting musical score by Michael Gonzales, whose earlier credits include the AVN Award winning film “The Masseuse,” created the score.
A special website, (TheNewDevilInMissJones.com) for the new movie includes scenes and other information from the new and old films.
Originally released in 1972, “The Devil in Miss Jones” is considered one of the smartest adult movies ever and was one of the few productions in which an adult filmmaker brought art to the scene. It tells the story of Justine Jones, a 30ish spinster who kills herself because her life is so empty. Confronted by the Devil and faced with an eternity in Hell, she is given the opportunity to live one more day any way she wants, and she chooses it to be consumed, engulfed and impassioned by lust. The film chronicles the ensuing sexual bacchanal. The original cast included Spelvin, Ginger Lynn, who was to become the first Vivid Girl and an actress who was to become one of the top adult stars of all time, plus Annette Haven, Kaye Parker, Vanessa del Rio, Rhonda Jo Petty, Seka and John Holmes.
