Hugh Hefner

(HOLLYWOOD, CA) — The Erotic Museum & Playboy Enterprises will honor Hugh Hefner as the first official inductee into the Erotic Museum Hall of Fame at a private reception on September 14, 2004. Bill Maher of HBO’s Real Time will host the ceremony in conjunction with the unveiling of the Erotic Museum’s new exhibition of Playboy memorabilia. The exhibit includes Hefner’s personal artifacts, such as his legendary pipe and silk pajamas, an original Playboy Bunny costume, and original paintings by Alberto Vargas, the classic pin-up artist whose Vargas Girls graced the pages of Playboy magazine for over 15 years.

The Erotic Museum Hall of Fame is a growing gallery of key personalities associated with sex in the American popular imagination ranging from scientists, researchers and theorists to actresses, activists and mavericks. Hugh Hefner’s portrait will hang next to sexual revolutionaries Sigmund Freud, Alfred Kinsey, Woody Allen, Margaret Sanger, Mata Hari, Dr. Ruth and Mae West. Each figure has advanced the dialogue on sexual behavior and helped usher the entire spectrum of sex away from opaque pathology and into the cultural mainstream.

Hugh Hefner and the Playboy Bunnies, accompanied by Bill Maher, will arrive at 1:30pm for the Erotic Museum Hall of Fame induction ceremony and dedication of the new Playboy exhibition. Proceedings will be followed by a brief Q & A.
