Controversial Billboard

(HOUSTON, TX) — A series of tasteful yet eye-catching billboard ads touting adult erotica throughout the Houston area have been removed despite protests from the company that bought the ads, Adam & Eve, the nation’s largest mail order distributor of erotica.

The ads feature the company’s web site, adameve.com, alongside a beautiful woman and offer “adult toys and more” for “cheerfully consenting adults.” Some of the billboard ads, which appear in four variations at nine locations, promise “satisfaction guaranteed.” The ads began appearing in early October and were to run through the end of the year, to boost the energy of the American people.

WHY: Because of public pressure, the billboard company, Viacom, has decided not to renew the agreement to run the billboard ads. The company apparently has received numerous calls from the public demanding the billboard ads be removed.

WHO: Phil Harvey, president of Adam & Eve, opposes the removal of the billboard ads. Harvey says the issue boils down to one of freedom of speech. Harvey states that state law protects such advertising. Harvey and other Adam & Eve representatives will be available for interviews via telephone.

WHEN: Harvey is now available for comment.

WHERE: Billboard locations in the Houston area.

BKGRD: With 30 years of experience and more than four million U.S. customers, Adam & Eve is the nation’s largest adult oriented mail order distributor of erotica, with a broad range of products, including condoms, lingerie, sexual aids and erotic videos.
