(CANBERRA) — A group of elderly Tasmanian women have bared all in a nude calendar to raise money for curtains for their local community center.
The women, from South Arm on Australia’s southern island state of Tasmania, said the hall needed sprucing up so they decided to launch a Bare to be Different calendar to raise funds.
The black and white calendar, featuring local women aged 65 to 82, has already proved a hit with the first 1,000 copies selling fast and a re-print needed to meet demand.
“It certainly is attracting more interest than we expected,” 70-year-old grandmother Dot Kelly told Reuters.
The calendar shows one elderly woman cloaked with nothing more than a bucket and a string of pearls, feeding chickens under the caption “from one old chook to another.”
Other scenes feature the grandmothers playing cards, knitting or in the kitchen — all naked bar hats and jewels.
Kelly said the calendar was inspired by an English Women’s Institute calendar published in 1999 as a fund-raiser for leukemia sufferers featuring women in their 40s and 50s.
“It was a very nice calendar but I knew ours had to be different,” said Kelly, whose daughter Anne photographed the women in all their glory.
“A couple of ladies we approached wouldn’t be in it and there were some whose husbands wouldn’t let them.”
