Poll: R-Rated Movies on Network TV Should Be Censored

(UTICA, NY) — An overwhelming majority of Americans think that R-rated movies shown on network television should be censored for profanity and nudity, according to a Zogby International poll.

The random telephone survey of 1,508 adults across the nation found that 80% believe R-rated movies shown on network TV should be censored. Another 18% were opposed to such censorship and 2% were not sure.

The poll also found that 59% of those between the ages of 18 and 24 believe R-rated movies shown on TV should be censored, proportionally less than older Americans. Of respondents 25-34, 84% favored censorship, along with 82% of 35-54-year-olds, 79% of 55-69-year-olds and 81% of those over 70.

Among women, 85% supported censorship vs. 74% of men.
