(TORONTO) — Among this year’s speakers are Winnipeg Mayor Glen Murray, who will address the group’s members – who come from, among other cities, Toronto, Winnipeg, Montreal, Ottawa and Halifax – at the Primrose Hotel, Friday, May 5th at 9:30 p.m. in Toronto.

Other speakers at the convention, which will continue Saturday at Toronto City Hall, include:

David Corbett, legal counsel for Foundation for Equal Families, on where we stand after C-23

Kelly Jordan, a lawyer specializing in family law on how recent legislative changes affect gay/lesbian couples

Bert Archer, author of "The End of Gay", a controversial take on identity politics

RoBTV broadcaster Bruce Sellery

John Fisher, of Equality for Gays and Lesbians Everywhere (EGALE)

Robert Dodge, national economics correspondent with the Dallas Morning

News and president of the National Lesbian and Gay Journalists Association (U.S.)

Panels and speakers will cover topics from Gays in Advertising (with a fun and funny audio-visual Saturday lunchtime presentation by New York advertising executive Michael Wilke) to Internet Research to the Coverage of Visible Gay Minorities in the Media.

Our Saturday evening public panel will look at the Policing and Reporting of Illicit Gay Sex. Panelists include National Post writer Mitchel Raphael, Xtra! publisher David Walberg; John Kennedy, editor and Associate Publisher of fab; Matthew Hays, associate editor of the Montreal Mirror; and Richard Hudler, past president of the Homophile Association of London (HALO) and a critic of Project Guardian, the controversial "porn ring" project undertaken by the London City Police when Julian Fantino was their chief.

Convention ticket prices: Full registration, including Friday dinner, and Saturday breakfast and lunch: Members, $95, Non-members $140, Students and low-income: $65.

Friday dinner and events only: Members $50, Non-members $85, Students and low-income: $40.

Conference only: Members $50, Non-members $100, Students and low-income $25.

The National Lesbian and Gay Journalists’ Association has members nationwide and is affiliated with the NLGJA/U.S., which has more than 1,000 members in the United States.
