(SANTA FE, NM) — The Santa Fe City Council will vote this evening on an ordinance prohibiting sexually oriented businesses from setting up shop at most places in the city.

The new measure will require establishments to obtain a city business license and that they submit extensive information, like whether employees have criminal records and fingerprints. The businesses falling under the proposal include strip clubs, adult bookstores, X-rated movies and hotels that rent rooms for less than ten hours.

The businesses will also be prohibited within one-thousand feet of a residential area or places where children gather. Council members are expecting a heated debate at tonight’s meeting.
