(BOSTON, MA) — Will one of the oldest adult websites in existence win the newest adult entertainment industry award?
That’s the question that faces Wasteland.com and founder Colin Rowntree going into the Sex Awards (www.thesexawards.com), the fan-voted adult awards show that makes its debut this October. Presented by AVN Media Network in conjunction with the X3Sixty Network, a new venture from AVN founder and longtime publisher Paul Fishbein, the Sex Awards show is also slated for national television broadcast in January 2014.
All aspects of the adult industry are represented in the Sex Awards’ categories, including talent, studios, pleasure products, websites, content production and distribution companies.
“We feel that the consumer will enjoy voting on these 17 categories,” Fishbein, said. “The site launch will allow the nominated companies and people to use their social media resources to garner votes, making the whole experience interactive.”
“Wasteland.com has won many awards and honors over the years, but this one would be particularly special,” Rowntree said. “With the fans making the call on who wins, there’s a feeling of real accomplishment, because ultimately it’s the fans who we shoot movies and create websites for.”
Founded in 1994, Wasteland.com is one of the adult web’s oldest and most respected brands. Over the years, the site has received a variety of adult industry awards, including the 2012 XBIZ Award for Specialty/Alternative Site of the Year. Rowntree himself is no stranger to awards, either, having received the 2011 FSC Leadership Award, and an induction to the AVN Hall of Fame, Internet Founder’s Branch, in 2011.
Even with such a well-populated trophy case, Rowntree says there’s plenty of room for more, especially ones bestowed by fans of the venerated website he launched nearly 20 years ago.
“Being recognized by my peers is very nice, of course,” Rowntree said, “but my peers aren’t the ones buying the memberships that keep the lights on and the servers humming around here.”
