“The Sexual Liberation of Anna Lee” reviewed by Rich Moreland. Sexual repression is the theme of the Sexual Liberation of Ann Lee, another superb collaboration by director/writer Jacky St. James and cinematographer Eddie Powell.
Anna Lee (Maddy O’Reilly) is a young woman who wants to throw off the sexual inhibitions programmed into her as a child. Though she is emotionally good to go, Anna’s body is locked into her past and refuses to enjoy sex. Frustrated that she can’t fulfill her desires, Anna agrees to go to a special treatment center, Variel House, for help.
A brother and sister team, Gaige and Whitney Savage (Steven St. Croix and India Summer), operate the facility and set up a series of tasks that will bring Anna out of her malaise. In the meantime, there is another patient at the facility, Emmett (Xander Corvus) whom Anna is warned to avoid.
As Anna progresses through her therapy, she is exposed to each of story’s sex scenes. The first is between Whitney and a staffer, Michael (Johnny Castle). Because it’s at the beginning of Anna’s journey, it’s a straight up vanilla highlighted by India’s gorgeous body and her mature sexual skills. There’s lots of oral and the standard fare of cowgirl, mish, spoon, and doggie. As part of her treatment, Anna is blindfolded so she may listen to the sounds of sex (part of her therapy), accentuated visually by Eddie Powell’s camera as it moves around the action.
Of course, Anna inevitably meets Emmett and learns about his hang-ups. During sex he never closes his eyes or opens his heart, she later observes. During a counseling session with Whitney, Emmett explains his preference for sex with a woman whose identity he doesn’t know. While he is talking, the camera brings Emmett’s description to life. The sex scene features Emmett and Marielle (Natalia Starr), a girl he hires who plays her submissive role wearing a mask. Emmett rips off Marielle’s fishnet outfit while she is helplessly tied to the bed. For bondage lovers it’s an arousing scene with spanking and choking.
All the while, Anna overhears Emmett’s therapy session and her desire to know him grows.
Anna is also challenged to describe what she intimately perceives in others. In an exercise with Gaige and another staffer, Elize (Jessa Rhodes), Anna fantasizes about what sex between an older man and a woman barely out of her teens would be like. In this sex scene, the not yet twenty-one Jessa Rhodes, a rising superstar in porn, is the perfect match for veteran Steven St. Croix. All the positions are covered and Jessa is fun to watch. Like the other sexual romps in this romantically oriented film, there is no anal or facial.
Treatment at Variel House requires that Anna and Emmett collaborate in a series of exercises that gradually bring them together. In time, however, the emotional investment becomes more than Emmett can handle. Slipping Anna a farewell note, he departs the facility. A saddened Anna is also destined to leave, but first the staff has a final task for her that entails allowing herself to be pleasured.
To fulfill her fantasies, Anna is attached to a St. Andrew’s cross which BDSM aficionados will adore. Caressed by the entire staff, she is exposed to hot wax and a brief flogging. The narrative doesn’t end here because Anna can’t get Emmett out of her mind, nor can he forget her. The sex between them is the hottest of the film with great oral and hard thrusting. Maddy O’Reilly and Xander Corvus have definite chemistry not to be missed.
The Sexual Liberation of Anna Lee rivals last year’s St. James/Powell classic, the Submission of Emma Marx. The acting is excellent and Maddy O’Reilly is huggable one moment and slutty the next. She gives a ripping performance that is so fierce she and Xander break a pair of handcuffs pounding each other. Superb.
