Wonderland Out on DVD – Remember John Holmes?

With the release of the movie “Wonderland” on DVD I thought a series of articles centering on John Holmes would be an interesting read. Linked at the bottom are two other pieces – “The Real John Holmes” by Bob Ellison, and “‘Wonderland’ed” by Bill Margold. As you will see by his review, Bill was very very close to the whole situation.

My impression? Wonderland was a bit too reminiscent of the bad ol’ days for this recovered coke addict. Throughout the movie I would find a knot in my stomach or sweaty palms invoked by the morbid images from the screen coming way too close to my suppressed memories – that is untill the ending. I was somehow able to be far away from wherever bodily harm was going on which, I suppose, is how I made it out alive.

There are organizations now, that help with drug counciling and other problems that Adult Industry entertainers may have, like PAW (Protecting Adult Welfare) and AIM (Adult Industry Medical Healthcare Foundation) providing Industry Talent with services. Amazon.com calls Wonderland “the dark underside of Boogie Nights” and a “sleaze-filled look at the notorious ‘Wonderland Murders’ of 1981”. (Amazon is linked in the box to the right too.) There are a number of good drug-horror movies out there but this one is of particular interest because the main character happened to be the most famous man in porn of all time.
