The Adult Industry Readers questions about the adult industry.
This week’s mailbag was full of questions concerning the adult industry. Each week I receive e mails from readers who have questions and have no one else to ask. Topics range from escorting to swinging. If you have a question you would like me to answer, please feel free to e mail me at Julie@JulieWild.com
Have you ever thought about entering the adult industry? See what my readers have to say.

Dear Julie,
I have questions. Is Julie a real person or a brand? It seems to me that it would be pretty easy to make a brand based on a picture rather than a photo that is merely a composite of the people in the group.
John
Dear John,
Yes, there really is a Julie. I live in Atlanta and write this weekly column. I have clients all over the country, who schedule phone sessions with me. I also offer appointments in my office. For more information, please visit my web site.
Dear Julie,
My name is Bob and I have been thinking about starting an adult movie business. Can you tell me how to open an adult business?
Bob F.
Dear Bob,
Thank you for the e mail. Although most adult movie businesses are based on the west coast, there are a few adult movie businesses in Atlanta and Miami. The adult business is more difficult than it might appear. You must know a great deal about the legality of the movie you are producing, you must keep excellent records, especially with the new 2257 law.
My suggestion would be to take some time and find a job at one of the larger adult producers. Work for six months and if you still have an interest in the business, then by all means, give it a try. I know a few individuals who started their own adult business with little or no training. Most found that without a proper distribution system, it is very hard to get the movies in the stores.
Good luck with your new career.
Hey Julie,
I am exploring opportunities as an escort in Orlando. I have not applied to any agencies or taken any real action yet. I read some of your blog entries on Escort Blog and you seem to be very confident and tasteful in what you do… just the type of attitude I want to emulate in starting my career. I am a project manager by training and I am very well educated. I have the look and the attitude needed to do well. I was wondering if you could offer any advice to a rookie!
Thanks in advance Katie
Dear Katie,
If you are serious about becoming an escort, the first thing you need to do is make sure you can handle the job emotionally. If you feel like you can, go on-line and read about independent escorts vs. agencies. There are good points and bad points for both options.
If you work for an agency, they control the flow of clients, you will not spend time finding clients and screening clients. You will just work and split your income with the agency. If you are independent, like most of the escorts I know, you will be running your own business, marketing, advertising and emailing or speaking on the phone with new clients. You can control who you see and when you see them. Also, as an independent escort, you keep all of your income, less your expenses.
As for as attitude, I find that men are looking for personality as much as looks or shape. Good luck.
Dear Coach Julie,
Not sure where to start, but I have a problem. I am 42 years old and about to lose my husband of 20 years to a porn star. My husband is infatuated with this woman. He met her at a “bar meet” and they have been emailing daily. Our sex life has been anything but exciting since day one. I do not like to talk about sex, I do not like threesomes, group sex or even masturbation.
My husband has a much greater sex drive than I do. He tells me story after story about this woman he met. She posts on her blog daily and he reads it at least 10 times a day. He buys all of her movies and even sends her presents. Please help me, any suggestions?
Carlise M.
Dear Carlise,
I am sorry you are going through a stage in your marriage where your husband is in love with a star. I know many porn stars and web girls. Like myself, they all live a “real” life outside of work. We all have errands to run, shopping to do and rooms to clean. I am sure your husband is living a fantasy through this star.
Don’t blame the star, I am sure she receives hundreds of flirtatious emails every day. This is her job to return the correspondence with a short and sexy message. Maybe marriage counseling would do you both good or better yet, maybe you should watch the movies with him and expand your sexual knowledge.
There is nothing wrong with bringing a porn star into your bedroom, with the help of a DVD or Video. Give your relationship time, it sounds like your husband is covering up some form of stress or unhappiness with the idea of running away with a porn star.
Dear Julie,
I am 38 and happily married. My husband wants to make a XXX home movie and sell it on the Internet. Can you give me some pointers.
Rebecca
Dear Rebecca,
As I mentioned earlier, entering the adult business is more complicated than most people realize. There is marketing, getting people to your web site and then convincing them to buy your product. If you want your movie sold in retail stores, you will need to locate a distributor.
If making a movie is something you have always wanted to do, I would suggest you make the movie, edit the movie and then let other adult web sites sell the movie for you, paying each webmaster a percentage of the sales price.
