Biopic Funding Campaign: A Legend Looks Back by Rich Moreland

Whenever I write about someone in the Industry, I am secure in knowing that I’m preserving history. I’ve known Candida Royalle for the few years now and can attest she is one of the great ladies of adult film in front of and behind the camera. In the 1980s, she helped empower women when the government and anti-smut, pro-censorship feminists were excoriating pornography. Undaunted, Candida started her own company, Femme Productions, to shoot erotica/pornography with a woman’s vision. Since its inception, it has set the standard for feminist porn.

Over the last three decades, Candida’s porn sisters, the Club 90 women (Annie Sprinkle, Veronica Vera, Veronica Hart, and the late Gloria Leonard), have graciously shared their stories with the media, including yours truly, though largely within the context of the business and their contributions to it.

Now Candida is looking into her personal past, taking the bold step of sharing the memories that have shaped who she is. Producing an autobiographical documentary is never a cakewalk and money is always paramount, so take a look at her July 10 announcement below and give an adult film legend a hand if you will.

As the founding generation of modern adult film moves on, we do not want to lose their collective story. Thanks.

“Today my Kickstarter campaign went live. In case I haven’t had a chance to tell you about it, it’s a project close to my heart that I’ve dreamed about doing for a long time: An autobiographical documentary about my life, my work, and especially, about the search for my mother who left when I was 18 months old.

It’s the story I haven’t shared in all the many interviews and documentaries I’ve been in, the one I’ve held back until the time was right, and I could tell it in my own words.
