(LOS ANGELES, CA) — This Saturday, April 8, 2000, starting at about 10 PM (PT), The Dr. Susan Block Show will feature brilliant, provocative, National Magazine Award-winning author of The Lifestyle: A Look at the Erotic Rites of Swingers, Terry Gould.
“The Lifestyle is the most in-depth, insightful book on swinging in America since Thy Neighbor’s Wife…beautifully and passionately written by a top investigative journalist who entered the World of Swing ready to condemn it and wound up understanding, defending and capturing it with unparalleled sensitivity. Peppered with enthralling interviews, wild sex scenes and funny situations, the book is anchored by Gould’s extensive research and serious discussions of evolutionary psychology, world history, art and contemporary mores.
There’s a fascinating section on how the evolutionary psych concept of “Sperm Warfare” causes so many swinger men to enjoy watching their wives have sex with other men. Therea also happens to be an excellent chapter on the history and meaning of my philosophy of Ethical Hedonism, including bits on The 10 Commandments of Pleasure, my seminars and shows at Lifestyles Conventions, but I’d love this book even if it didn’t have me in it. This is important reading not just for swingers and the swing-curious, but for anyone interested in the complex nature of human sexuality.” – SB

Other special guests on the 4.8.00 show include swinging couples Chennin Blanc and Cheyne Collins and Jessica Drake and Evan Stone, and as always, callers from around the globe. After the talk show part of the program, we’ll invite guests and studio-audience volunteers to enjoy Mario Saucedo’s Bondage Cross, the Speakeasy Gallery’s most popular interactive sculpture, as we frolic among the art and couches. This show can be viewed live on Saturday night for FREE on our What’s New? page. It will be shown subsequently among archived programs in our Erotic Theater of the Mind, and will be edited for broadcast within the next few months as a half-hour episode of our weekly TV show, airing on cable stations throughout the Greater LA area, as well as in various locations around the world.
BlockStudios are located at the Dr. Susan Block Institute for the Erotic Arts & Sciences, a center of sex education, expression and exploration. The Institute also houses Dr. Suzy’s Speakeasy with a vintage 20-foot bar and stage from the buildings Prohibition Era days as a genuine 1920s speak-easy, and the Speakeasy Gallery, featuring LA’s only permanent collection of erotic art (curator: Kim Mendoza). The address is 1235 S. Hope Street in downtown LA, just down the street from the Neon Art Museum and around the corner from the Staples Arena and LA Convention Center. Regular Speakeasy Gallery hours are Thursday-Saturday, 4 – 9 PM.
