(SAVANNAH, GA) — Women with low sexual drive are using prescription testosterone to increase their libido, according to David L. Ostman, MD
Many factors can influence the sex drive, although most are psychologically related, medical causes should be considered. A recent article published in the American Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology reports that “A change in hormone production such as the shrinkage of the ovaries that occurs in menopause can cause a lack of sexual desire. Research has found that testosterone given alone or in conjunction with estrogen provides a significant improvement in a women’s libido, more so than did treatment with estrogen alone.”
Other factors that can reduce a women’s libido include various medications, particularly those that are used to treat depression.
“If your testosterone or androgen levels are low, this can have a profound effect on your libido,” says Dr. David Ostman, a Board Certified Gynecologist in Savannah, Georgia. A supplemental trial of Testosterone allows patients to elevate their androgen levels, thus increasing their sexual drive.
“If lack of sexual desire occurs, the addition of an androgen or testosterone should be considered. These are naturally occurring substances in the body, but with age or stress, they may decrease,” says Ostman.
Further information can be obtained through Dr. Ostman’s Human Sexuality Educational Site at www.SexualitySite.com which although containing adult sexual topics, no pornography is allowed.
