(CAMBRIDGE, MA) — A John McCain banner ad appeared on an Asian porn Web site in February. The Harvard Current reports in its Spring 2000 issue that it recently spotted an Internet ad placed by the campaign of presidential hopeful John McCain on the self-proclaimed “Number one Asian Site on the Net.” McCain 2000 did not respond to several calls seeking comment.
The address of the porn site is members.theglobe.com/pkbrew/apfa03.htm.
The porn site is hosted on www.theglobe.com. Theglobe.com‘s Director of Advertising Sales, Will Margiloff, said that McCain 2000 purchased ad space with theglobe.com targeting viewers according to the geographic region from which they log on.
Under the ad contract, the McCain ad could appear on any and all sites hosted by theglobe.com.
Harvard Current magazine is the nation’s largest student newsmagazine, distributed to more than 200,000 college and graduate students at 20 universities. It was founded in 1998 by Harvard undergraduates Daniel Loss and Bom Kim, and is advised by Martin Peretz, editor-in-chief of The New Republic and a lecturer on social studies at Harvard.
