(VANCOUVER) — One candidate bared all in the interests of the homeless in Canada’s federal election, but her rivals vowed not to expose their own naked truth.
The issue arose over the weekend when it emerged that the New Democratic Party (news – web sites) (NDP) candidate in a Vancouver suburb had appeared topless in a fund-raising calendar for a women’s crisis center.
NDP candidate Lorrie Williams’ opponents are all middle-aged men, and they quickly assured voters they had no intention of following suit.
“I best not appear in the nude if I want to succeed,” Liberal Party candidate Lee Rankin, 47, told the Vancouver Sun newspaper. “Nobody would ever want to see me nude.”
A smiling Williams, 60, is photographed in the “Dames Do It For The Homeless 2001” calendar driving a red convertible car wearing nothing but sunglasses and jewelry.
