(LINCOLN, NE) — A Roman Catholic hospital hopes to get the Internet domain name madonna.com – the same site sought by Madonna the Material Girl.
Madonna Rehabilitation Hospital in Lincoln already owns the Web site madonna.org. Madonna the singer, meanwhile, owns madonnafanclub.com.
New Jersey entrepreneur Dan Parisi owns the domain name madonna.com, and previously used the site for pornographic material. Now he uses it to explain his position regarding the dispute.
He claims Madonna, whose full name is Madonna Louise Ciccone, has no more right to the domain name than anyone else with the same name. Parisi offered to give the domain name to the hospital last spring.
This month, the United Nation’s World Intellectual Property Organization is expected to announce who will get madonna.com.
“We’re hoping to get the name,” hospital spokeswoman Teresa Harms said Tuesday.
Harms said Madonna Rehabilitation has no insight into Parisi’s motives for wanting to give the name to the hospital. Nor has the hospital had contact with Madonna.
