(VANCOUVER, Canada) — Marilyn Star who fled to her native Canada before feds could arrest her for insider trading will finally face charges in the United States.

Former adult film star Kathryn Gannon aka Marilyn Star, who is charged with fraud and conspiracy in connection with a two-year insider-trading scheme, will be extradited for a hearing in March.

Tuesday’s decision, by Judge Patrick Dohm in Vancouver, has not only attracted attention because of Gannon’s celebrity status, but has created a stir in legal circles as well. The case presents an interesting opportunity for the United States to test out Canada’s new Extradition Act.

Gannon, 31, originally from Canada, moved to the United States to pursue a career in adult entertainment. While in New York, she became financially and sexually involved with two married businessmen who exploited inside information about planned bank mergers.

Gannon allegedly kept $80,000 of the $170,00 illegal profits made by James McDermott and Anthony Pomponio. The men face prison sentences as well as additional fines when sentenced on Friday.

Last year Canada established legal changes to cut through red tape in an often drawn-out process.

The new act speeds up procedures to obtain documents necessary to proceed with a case.

The former porn star’s extradition hearing is set for March 12 and is expected to last five days. John Loo, a federal Justice Department lawyer acting for the U.S. government explained that proceedings could be over in just one day, with the accelerated Extradition Act in place.
