(KARLSRUHE, Germany) — Even the world’s oldest profession is out of bounds for foreigners living in Germany without a work permit, the Constitutional Court ruled Friday.
The high court ruled in a case involving a 22-year-old Bulgarian woman who was caught working as a prostitute and fined for violating the conditions of her residency.
The woman, who is married to a German, argued that the law was vague about whether the ban on "gainful employment" included prostitution. A lower court disagreed, and the Constitutional Court upheld that decision.
Prostitution is legal in Germany.
