(LAS VEGAS, NV) — The Committee to Protect Dancing, a non-profit affiliate of the Las Vegas Dancers Alliance (LVDA), filed its “Protection of Dancing Initiative” this afternoon with the Clark County Elections Department. The initiative, which amends Title 6, Chapter 6.160 of the Clark County Code regulating Erotic Dance Establishments, seeks changes to the existing law approved by the Clark County Commissioners last July.
Among the items deleted from the existing law are:
1.. The suggestion that lap dancing increases the spread of venereal disease
2.. The suggestion that strip clubs foster increased drug abuse
3.. Language that criminalizes lap dancing
4.. Language that criminalizes couch dancing
5.. Language that criminalizes touching a customer’s leg
6.. The suggestion that regulation is needed to stem the threat to public health and safety
7.. Language requiring dancers to have business licenses (now or ever)
8.. Language allowing police to deny a work card based solely on an arrest
9.. Prohibitions against the mere touching of patrons (all too often used to drag dancers to jail for innocent interactions)
Addressing a small group of supporters just outside the Election Dept., Andrea Hackett said, “The Clark County Commissioners told us to ‘shut up’ and ‘get another job’ when they passed this legislation. Then hundreds of police in riot gear greeted us when we took our message to the streets. Now we’re taking our fight directly to the people of Clark County. And our message hasn’t changed. Hands off adult entertainment!”
