(ATLANTA, GA) — Prosecutors, defendants, media and anyone involved in the three ring circus called the Gold Club racketeering trial got a much needed day off on Friday.
With tempers getting short, star witnesses getting sued, and defense attorneys getting more television airtime than Wolf Blitzer during the Gulf War, all associated with the Gold Club trial in Federal Court in Atlanta are enjoying a long weekend.
Thursday’s testimony ended with a former girlfriend of Gold Club manager Norbert Calder testifying she was threatened not to testify in the trial. She said Steven Kaplan and the Gold Club were connected to the Mafia, and said Mafioso had paid her visits since she left Atlanta in 1997.
In addition Steven Kaplan’s former girlfriend Deborah Pinson testified on Thursday calling Kaplan “a wolf in sheep’s clothing.” Upcoming, it has been floated around Atlanta that professional athletes, possibly starting with Denver Bronco’s All Pro running back Terrell Davis could begin taking the stand in the next two weeks. Patrick Ewing is another name mentioned as expected to testify, along with then team mate John Starks.
