(CHATSWORTH, CA) — Women have become a “creative and essential force in directing adult productions,” according to Adult Video News magazine, and are shaping the future of porn with their varied and unique visions of what gets men and women aroused.

In a cover story in the July issue profiling the top 29 female directors of hard core films, AVN says women are “putting their mark on what was formerly a boys club, and in the process making the porn industry all the better for it.”

Another former actress turned director, Jill Kelly, says: “I want men and women to be able to watch my movies together. It’s hardcore, but not too hard.”

Former starlet Wendi Knight says she was driven to become a directrix because she enjoys “making the kind of porn movies that make you horny and want to have sex.”

Porn star Renee LaRue told AVN that “I’ve been working my ass off since 1988 and I can’t be in front of the camera forever. I’ve been watching how it all happens for along time and I’ve kind of stored it all. I want to get talent who enjoys their work and bring that enthusiasm out of them.”

Jewel De’Nyle, who still acts in adult movies, says she demands “110 percent from my talent. If they’re just going through the motions, I’m not gong to put that on film. I’ve actually stopped a scene, gave the talent a kill fee and sent them on their way.”

Former actress Dee, who now operates DeeVa Productions, says that “A lot of us female directors that are coming up were talent and that sets us apart because we can sympathize with talent when we come on set and this makes us get better work from them.”
