(LOS ANGELES, CA) — Live turkeys have been presented as Thanksgiving gifts to American Presidents nearly as long as there was a United States. One Thanksgiving, President Abraham Lincoln had mercy on a donated turkey after his son befriended the doomed bird. In commemoration of that 19th century act of amnesty, President Harry Truman began the annual tradition of pardoning a Thanksgiving turkey.

The 2004 acquitted bird will retire to a life of luxury at Kidwell Farm in Frying Pan Park (no kidding) in Virginia, while approximately 50 million less fortunate relatives will meet (meat?) their fate in a very different (but tasty) way this Thanksgiving holiday.

We here at FlyntDigital are thankful for many things – family, friends, freedom, and the fact that our offices will be closed Thursday, November 25 and Friday, November 26 in honor of the national holiday. You may reach us by e-mail, should any serious issues arise, with administrative concerns being addressed upon staff return on Monday, November 29.

May all of us, especially our servicemen and women in harm’s way, have a safe and happy holiday weekend.
