(CHATSWORTH, CA) — In 2002, Showtime made history by becoming the first network to commission a reality show surrounding the lucrative and controversial adult entertainment business. Entitled Family Business, the show followed adult movie producer Adam Glasser – also known as Seymore Butts – and his travels through the wacky world of adult entertainment with his mother Lilah and Cousin Stevie helping him run his company.
After two successful seasons, during which ratings skyrocketed and the show’s popularity pushed it to being rerun several days a week, Showtime has taken the plunge again and picked up Family Business for a third season!
“I feel great and I think it validates the effort that we put into the show,” says Glasser. “I can’t give anything away about season three, but we’re going to delve deeper into family issues and do things we haven’t done before, like shooting in exotic locations which I haven’t done a lot of since the show started shooting. Hedonism should expect to be getting a call from us really soon.”
Described by the Kansas City Star as “A new reality series that promises to do for porno what Six Feet Under did for mortuaries,” Family Business’ first and second seasons focused on introducing the family to viewers – Lilah is the company accountant while Cousin Stevie works with distributors to get Glasser’s product on store shelves – as well as giving fans a behind-the-scenes glimpse at what Glasser goes through when making one of his movies. But the show isn’t just about the sex and money side of the industry. Glasser, a single father, also allowed the cameras to capture the time he spends with nine year-old son Brady, as well as his tireless – and sometimes embarrassing – quest to find true love. Jay Blumenfield, the executive producer of Family Business, is pleased to be back for the third time and looks forward to the antics they’ll be capturing for the upcoming season.
“We couldn’t be more excited – we’re completely psyched that this groundbreaking and seminal show is back for another fun filled season,” says Blumenfield. “Adam’s been so generous with his time and letting us into his life, and as a result the response to both seasons has been overwhelming. We look forward to seeing where this year’s season takes us – he seems ready to let us even deeper into his life because he knows that by being open he affects a lot of people in a really good way.”
And though his privacy has since become compromised, Cousin Stevie can’t wait to get the reality cameras rolling again. Says Stevie, “I think it’s fucking awesome that we get another chance to share this crazy fucking family with the world! I’m amazed at the notoriety I get from the show. I was on the red carpet for the Bourne Supremacy with Magic Johnson walking behind me and the crowd was yelling my name – I couldn’t believe it! A lot has changed since season two, most notably the fact that I’ve started my own production company. This is going to be the best season yet!
Production on the third season of Family Business begins this fall, with the new episodes airing in January 2005. In the meantime, don’t miss seasons one and two of Family Business, currently in reruns on Showtime, or pick up Family Business: Season One on DVD now!
