“Proclaim Liberty throughout all the land unto all the inhabitants thereof.” These words from Leviticus (25:10) along with the Liberty Bell onto which they were inscribed were obvious symbols to colonial Americans – used to rally against British tyranny culminating in the Revolutionary War.

Actually, the bell’s history began some years earlier and for a different reason. It was commissioned by the Pennsylvania Assembly in 1751 to commemorate the 50-year anniversary of William Penn’s Charter of Privileges – the Pennsylvania constitution guaranteeing religious and personal freedom. The biblical verse which contains the phrase refers to the 50-year Jubilee when debts were forgiven and slaves set free.

The bell was later used for among other things, to summon the Continental Congress and very importantly to announce the reading of the Declaration of Independence.

In celebration of Independence Day, our employees will have a day of freedom on Monday, July 5 and our offices will be closed. As always, we will be e-mail accessible and available for any serious issues that may arise. Administrative concerns will be addressed upon staff re-enslavement on Tuesday, July 6.

We wish you and yours a safe and happy holiday weekend.
