(CHATSWORTH, CA) — Mixing the popularity of gonzo’s all-sex action and the you-are-there edge of reality productions, Sudden Impact introduces an all-new genre: Gonzality.
Sudden Impact is so sure of the impression the new genre will make on the adult video industry that the company trademarked Gonzality, co-owner Derek Dozer said. He added that it also best describes where the adult video industry is headed.
“Gonzo’s been popular for over 10 years now,” he said, “And recently, there’s been the rise of reality entertainment in the mainstream and in adult. What Gonzality brings is the best both of worlds. We’ve noticed that our customers aren’t into long, drawn-out dialogue, but they also want something more believable than a naked woman spread-eagled on a bed in their set-ups.”
Co-owner Julian added, “With reality porn, you have the will-she-or-won’t-she anticipation of the scene. When we’re shooting Gonzality, we bring the girl’s sense of expectancy and it gets even thicker when she teases the camera like a traditional gonzo pairing. What makes these scenes pop is the addition of a solid male performer, like Billy Glide or myself, with the girls we cast who are all new to the industry — in many cases, the anticipation is no act.”
Gonzality’s episodic format is suited for the new generation of porn buyers, who are used to downloading podcasts and watching clips on YouTube, Dozer said. The camera is acknowledged during the scene, drawing the viewer in and giving a you-are-there feeling.
The idea for the hybrid moniker came as the two were reviewing footage from their library of titles.
“We realized that what we’d been shooting since we began the company was something different from reality porn and gonzo,” Julian said. “We’d been shooting Gonzality all along — we just didn’t realize it.”
