(ATLANTA, GA) — Even though it’s pretty much been established that most healthy people enjoy the titillation that comes with watching a blue movie or trying new sex toys, we’re still quite a ways away from being able to discuss such things in so-called polite company. As a result, adult companies find few opportunities to market their products among a more mainstream audience.
That’s where ConSluts.com comes in; an online community for science-fiction, gaming, and comic convention enthusiasts.
Launched late last year as a venue by which adult companies of all types may have an opportunity to expose their products to adults of various lifestyles in the fan convention subculture, the site has found and active audience in its demographic.
”What most people don’t understand about the proverbial modern geek,” says ConSluts.com editor Scott McGowan, ”is that we have just as much of an interest in adult products as anyone else. One only has to spend a couple of hours witnessing the debauchery that occurs during the evening hours at such conventions to understand this.”
With this in mind, ConSluts.com kicked things off last year with an exclusive, adults only event that has quickly become one of the most renowned parties of Dragon*Con, a convention that attracts around 35,000 attendees annually. 2007’s party was attended by various science fiction celebrities including actors from the re-imagined incarnation of Battlestar Galactica , Star Wars, and the Stargate franchise of movies and television shows. The event was also covered extensively in the pages of Hustler magazine.
Building on last year’s success, ConSluts.com will host yet another event during Dragon*Con on August 29th in a private suite at the Atlanta Hyatt Regency hotel for a group of exclusive guests including more sci-fi genre celebrities and a couple of hundred self-proclaimed ”Con Sluts.” Presented in a Co-Ed Locker Room theme where guests are encouraged to let their imaginations run wild as it pertains to attire (Do Sith Lord’s have their own cheerleading squads?), the event is in stark contrast to Dragon*Con’s increasingly conservative programming policies.
”In years past, the convention welcomed various types of adult oriented panel discussions and seminars on such topics as 2257, web cam girls, and various alternative sexual lifestyles,” said McGowan. ”Unfortunately, due to a more conservative leadership at Dragon*Con, many of these bits of programming have gone by the wayside in recent years.”
McGowan continued saying, ”That’s one of the origins of ConSluts.com and our parties. We intend to bring back such adult oriented fun in a private, safe, and sane environment.”
For this year’s event, ConSluts.com has taken on such respected adult companies as studio Pink Visual and internet Video on Demand powerhouse, Yappo, along with retailers Adam & Eve and Babeland as sponsors. The companies have provided thousands of dollars worth of prizes that will be distributed to all guests in the form of goodie bags along with special prizes for those who win contests that will take place during the party. Among those contests are the Exotic, Erotic Banana Eating Contest and Private Dancer, where ladies will have a chance to perform a tease-style dance behind an illuminated curtain.
”The ConSluts party is a unique way to introduce our product to a targeted mainstream audience,” says Kate Sylvan, Marketing and PR Coordinator for Pink Visual.
”We have a great group of sponsors for this year’s party who truly understand the potential for exposure in such a mainstream environment,” said McGowan.
”These are all luminary companies with amazing products to offer and we’re honored to be able to pass their marketing message on to what we feel is an extremely relevant and interested community of adults.”
”Yappo is happy to be part of ConSluts. After the gamers are done slaying dragons, we help them relax. It’s a win, win,” according to Kristin, Marketing Coordinator for Yappo.com.
As for future plans, the operators of ConSluts.com look forward to taking their special brand of naughty fun to other conventions on the east coast of the United States and continuing to bring other like-minded geeks into the fray.
Adult companies interested in promoting their products through ConSluts.com and their events are encourage to send E-mail to ConSluts (at) gmail.com
