(CHATSWORTH, CA) — Widely acknowledged as one of the world’s leading erotic photographers, for over twenty-five years Suze Randall had been creating brilliant, stylish portraits that glorify the sensuality of her models. One of those models that Suze had the opportunity to work with was under aged porn queen Traci Lords, and now, for the first time, she’ll be sharing her recollections on national television courtesy of an interview she participated in for A&E’s popular program Biography, which turns its focus on Lords Monday, April 19th.
“It was nice to go back down memory lane and to talk about probably the best model I’ve ever worked with,” says Randall. “Although I didn’t know she was underage, she was a close friend at the time. It was very nice to retrace those steps and relive that era. My husband often reminds me what a scary time it was, but I was young and stupid and excited. It was wonderful knowing her and really refreshing talking about her.”
Randall had the opportunity to share not only her opinions on Lords and her impact on the industry, but she also discussed some of her fondest memories of working with her on several sets. Of all her stories, Randall has one that stands out from all the rest.
“She’s the only model that I’ve ever done a sunrise shoot with – I found her making love on the beach at dawn, so I grabbed my camera and did a layout on her,” Randall laughs. “I could never get anyone to get up that early to shoot, and she had just not slept! She was a hot one! No wonder she had the whole industry fooled! She was so sexually aggressive and provocative. I’ve never met anyone like her.”
Randall was interviewed at her mountain retreat earlier this year by show producer Diane Frank, who spoke highly of her involvement in the show and insight into one of the most controversial figures of adult entertainment.
“There’s so many different views on Traci, and Suze struck me as being in the middle. She doesn’t seem to be hiding anything or trying to get any particular point across. She doesn’t have an agenda. She tells it like it is,” Frank says. “She’s a radical person, but she’s not radical on this issue. She was able to see Traci as a person. She’s not as rancorous as some others are. She sees Traci probably as Traci doesn’t want to see her – of course, Traci claims she doesn’t know what was going on, but Suze sees Traci as knowing precisely what was going on. Whether or not she felt she could leave the industry was a different issue. Suze had a more balanced view of the situation. Her commentary was very valuable.”
Biography features clips from Too Naughty To Say No, a title Randall shot during the Lords era, which will be re-released by Pure Play Media Inc. next month. Pure Play CEO Richard Arnold is pleased with the coverage.
“It speaks to the fact that she is such a veteran of the industry and such a source of knowledge,” Arnold notes. “She’s been around, so people go to her for information. Just as new talent goes to her to get shot with the best.”
