Top Stars, Moguls and Fans From Around the World Converge On Las Vegas for Adult Entertainment Expo in January, Accompanying AVN Awards Show (Dubbed “The Oscars of Adult Entertainment”) Hosted by Jenna Jameson Celebrates 21st Year.

(LAS VEGAS, NV) — Can’t get enough porn? AVN has the answer for you and for the more than 20,000 fans expected to converge on Las Vegas in January for the world’s largest gathering of X-rated moguls, adult merchants and performers.

The anchor events for the adult industry’s biggest week are the Adult Entertainment Expo (AEE) from January 8th to 11th at the Sands Expo Center and the 21st annual AVN Awards Show on January 10th at the Venetian Hotel. The show has been dubbed “The Oscars of Adult” by Entertainment Weekly. It will be co-hosted this year by adult mega star Jenna Jameson.

Both events are sponsored by AVN, the world’s leading authority on X-rated subjects.

More mainstream media attention is focused on the events this year as a result of greater-than-usual coverage of the adult industry in newspapers, magazines, television and radio.

The number of fans attend the AEE is expected to increase, with men and women combing the aisles for a chance to have a video autographed by a favorite star or to check out the latest adult toys, video and DVD features or novelties.

Meanwhile, professionals attending seminars and holding business meetings at AEE this year are expected to discuss the continuing quest to create content that maintains the edginess of adult and at the same time leverages the new sense of legitimacy the industry is enjoying.

AEE attendees will also keep a sharp eye on legal issues. One of the best-attended seminars is expected to be the one entitled “Do I Need to Get a Lawyer?” (2 p.m. January 9), which will explore recent court decisions that affect the XXX business, proposed legislation that could impact retail store owners and other “legal issues affecting the adult industry and what can be done about them.”

The traditional highlight of the week is the AVN Awards Show Saturday night, where this year more than 100 awards will be presented in categories as diverse as “Best Film,” “Best All-Sex Video,” “Best Transsexual Performer,” “Best Group sex Scene” and “Best Amateur Tape.”

The lavish awards show, which will be filmed for broadcast on the Playboy Channel, celebrates the finest in adult films and videos with an extravaganza packed with live music, comedy, sexy entertainment plus appearances by every major star in the business. Ms. Jameson’s co-host for the event will be comedian Jim Norton.

Adult Entertainment Expo and Awards

Invariably the adult stars and industry celebrities put on outrageous impromptu shows as they accept their awards or serve as presenters. In years past, some of their antics have stunned even the most cynical among the attendees.

The AVN Awards Show this year will feature several new categories, including the top transsexual star. “This genre continues to grow and with more and more performers becoming established and the overall level of quality improving. We feel it is time transsexuals are honored for their efforts,” said Tim Connelly, publisher and editor-in-chief of AVN. Another new category is the award for “Best Amateur Tape” and “Best Amateur Series,” which will be given for “completely amateur productions, with no professionals shooting them or performing in them,” Connelly said.
