(SYDNEY, AUSTRALIA) — Having proven itself as one of the world’s most successful sex-related events, Australia’s Sexpo exhibition is now considered a vital part of the National Heritage.
The National Library of Australia has approached Sexpo, for permission to archive its website information for the benefit of future generations.
"The Library has traditionally collected items in print, but it is also committed to preserving electronic publications (including web sites) of lasting cultural value… We would like to include the Sexpo web site (Sexpo.Com.Au) …Archive was set up by the Library in 1996 to enable the archiving and provision of long-term access to online Australian publications. Since then we have been identifying online publications and archiving those that we consider have national significance…"
"It’s a wonderful recognition for a concept that has helped to shape attitudes towards sex and lifestyle issues in a relatively short amount of time," notes Sexpo founder and organiser, David Ross.
"Since our debut in 1996, almost one-million people have visited Sexpo. They’ve been entertained, informed and have helped to make our adult lifestyle concept such a success.
"We’ve always said the subject matter has universal appeal, and it’s nice that it’s considered to be of genuine cultural value as well."
Selling sex – for the Good of Australia
As well as all the things you’d expect at an event called Sexpo, there are a broad range of exhibitors covering everything from wines and food to spas and holidays. Sexpo is unique in the way it markets the adult lifestyle concept.
There is also the Sexual Health Education (SHE) exhibition, showcasing the best information on sexual health and research, with leading experts and organisations at the event.
Sexpo now visits four major cities a year, with the next event to be held at Sydney’s Fox Studios from Thursday July 31 to Sunday August 3.
Sydney, itself, is about to play host to its 250,000th Sexpo visitor.
The National Library of Australia is preserving electronic publications – including websites – that it considers of lasting cultural value, and of a national significance.
