(LAS VEGAS, NV) — The Fashionistas, a fetish sex-laden twist on the fashion industry, was chosen as Best Adult Film of the year at the 20th Annual AVN Awards ceremony on Saturday. The debut film from top porn star Jenna Jameson’s new production studio was named as the best selling video of 2002.
Directed by John Stagliano and produced by his Evil Angel studio, the Fashionistas won ten awards, including Best Film. Stagliano was named Best Director of an adult film for his work on the four and a half hour movie, which AVN magazine described as "The finest hardcore-meets-fetish-story-oriented porn production ever." the film is set in the kinkier part of the downtown Los Angeles fashion district and, AVN says, "It pretty much nails that dark sub-culture right on the head." Its female star, Taylor St. Claire, won the award for Best Actress – Film.
Over 3,500 people attended the 2003 AVN Awards Show Saturday (January 11th) at the Venetian Hotel in Las Vegas. Evil Angel was given a total of nineteen awards including three for the Rocco Siffredi-directed video the Ass Collector, which won the award for Best Video Feature. Wicked Pictures earned the second most awards for a single company with a total of eleven AVN Awards wins including Best DVD for last year’s Best Video winner Euphoria and four for the Michael Raven-directed video Breathless.
Lexington Steele collected his third Male Performer of the Year trophy, while Aurora Snow took Best Female Performer honors and Jenna Haze was named Best New Starlet.
AVN, the industry’s leading trade publication and keeper of statistics on the adult industry, announced during the ceremony that the ClubJenna/Vivid Entertainment Group feature Briana Loves Jenna. The title starring Vivid Girls Jenna Jameson and Briana Banks was both the top renting and top selling tape of 2002. It was the first production from ClubJenna.
The AVN Awards Show, part of the AVN Media Network, was the culmination of a notable week for the adult industry in which record numbers of attendees visited two major trade shows. At one point on Saturday there was a three and half hour wait for people waiting to get into the Adult Entertainment Expo. Earlier in the week, more than 5,000 Webmasters and other adult Internet professionals attended the Internext Expo to learn about new content, marketing techniques and legal issues.
