(CHATSWORTH, CA) — Spurred by porn queen Jenna Jameson’s financial success in both adult and mainstream entertainment, an increasing number of women are eager to act in adult videos and films, according to leading industry trade journal Adult Video News.
In its October issue cover story, AVN reports that studios are "scrambling to sign the latest ‘Next Big Things,’ putting them in front of the camera and onto box covers almost as quickly as they arrive in Porn Valley (California’s San Fernando Valley). The more savvy production companies are going to greater and greater lengths, aggressively utilizing both the established marketing strategies and some creative, new ones to distinguish themselves from their competitors."
AVN says that "industry powerhouse Vivid Entertainment Group has a stable of some of the best-known names in adult, but the company also works hard to keep its talent roster and new releases full of fresh faces."
AVN associate editor Steven Ochs writes that "When the new girls see someone like Jenna and how successful she is, it gives them a benchmark. It gives them something to strive for." Jameson has had featured appearances in music videos from Korn and Eminem and has appeared on numerous television shows, including the O’Reilly Factor and upcoming roles in "Porn ‘n Chicken" a new movie from Comedy Central, and the new NBC series "Mister Sterling." her company, ClubJenna, Inc., has licensed her likeness for an adult action figure and bobblehead doll, and has made other merchandising deals for a long-distance phone card, sex toys, a pubic hair trimmer and other products.
AVN says studios are employing a variety of methods to identify future porn stars, especially those with "fresh-scrubbed looks and down-to-earth personalities." Internet talent searches and bikini contests at casinos are among the newer recruiting tools, along with traditional ones such as scouting at topless bars and advertising in weekly newspapers. "And these days, adult companies have a deeper pool of Jenna wannabes from which to choose. In adult entertainment, one of the few constants is the never-ending infusion of fresh flesh. And it doesn’t really matter whether the girls come to the industry via bikini contests, talent agencies or ads in the back of newspapers," the magazine reports.
