(ATLANTA, GA) — Adult industry observer and writer, Scott McGowan, will take a rare step over Labor Day weekend in Atlanta, GA, by acting as moderator for two adult industry discussion panels at the mainstream multimedia and popular arts convention, Dragon*Con.
McGowan, the renowned editor and chief writer of the adult news and commentary website EyeOnAdult.com, will set up shop for a two night stand to lead conversations about entertainment technology’s love affair with adult entertainment as well as the primary social concerns facing adult industry workers, particularly webmasters and models. Also on board as expert panelists for these discussions are AVN Award winning director and industry blogger Mike South (MikeSouth.com) along with Jim “Gonzo” McAnally, a well known adult webmaster and owner of the adult industry think tank Oprano.com. Also making a very special appearance will be Atlanta model and businesswoman, Melissa Wolf, who is best known as one of Penthouse magazine’s most famous and prolific Penthouse Pets.
“I’m very, very excited about this,” said McGowan. “It’s a rare opportunity to be able to bring industry beginners and non-professionals into these discussions. Unfortunately, this is a group of people that are largely ignored by the adult entertainment’s establishment and it’s high time that changed.” However, fans looking for titillation will likely be disappointed. As McGowan puts it, “This is about education. Our goal is for people to leave these discussions with a better understanding of how to create, market, buy, and sell erotica safely, ethically, and legally. “These discussions could probably pass as ‘Pg-13’ in terms of content. However, this will be a forum for adults about adult matters.”
Dragon*Con, an event which draws over 30,000 attendees per year, is best known for it’s focus on science fiction/fantasy, gaming, comics, literature, art, and music, but also features the technology driven Electronic Frontiers Forums track of programming under which McGowan and crew will conduct their panels. The track was started by a local grass-root activist organization, Electronic Frontiers Georgia (EFGA.org), which itself was inspired by the Electronic Frontier Foundation (EFF.org), a national non-profit advocacy organization dedicated to issues concerning First Amendment, privacy, and intellectual property concerns as they pertain to modern technologies.
Scott Jones, director of Dragon*Con’s Electronic Frontiers Forum and 10-year member of Electronic Frontiers Georgia, said of McGowan’s adult entertainment themed panels, “While adult industry panels may seem out of place at a mainstream science fiction convention, both science fiction and the adult industry have faced their share of problems under the specter of censorship. One only has to look at the history of comic book censorship and the Comic Book Legal Defense Fund (CBLDF.org) to understand that these issues are not new. We examine censorship issues in the adult industry knowing full well that if we fail to understand the issues and speak up, our newly beloved science fiction fan web site may be next on the censor’s list.”
Scott McGowan, Mike South, Jim “Gonzo” McAnally, and Melissa Wolf will take the stage on Friday, Sept. 1st in Atlanta’s Marriott Marquis Hotel at 8:30 pm for a panel entitled Walking the Line: Moral, Ethical, and Legal Concerns in Online Adult Entertainment. McGowan, South, and McAnally will return the following evening, Saturday, Sept. 2 at 10 pm to continue the discussion in the panel Adult Entertainment and Technology: A Lusty Liaison. Both panels are being sponsored by adult video on demand mega-site MovieMonster.com and the over eighteen social networking website xPeeps.com. Both websites are owned and operated AEBN Inc. (AEBN.net) of Charlotte, NC.
