Christiana Cinn grew up in the simplicity of rural America. After high school, she worked as a hair stylist and supplemented her income with exotic dancing. To conceal her identity, Christiana relied on wigs and a stage name.
But her talent was noticed because Playboy called and the small-town lass landed a gig at the Playboy Live studio in Culver City.
“It opened a lot of opportunities for me to do music videos and model with well-known photographers,” Christiana recalls during our interview at this year’s Adult Entertainment Expo.
A visit to the Playboy Mansion followed, then a shoot for Hustler.
“Being comfortable naked and photographed and video-taped set the tone,” she says, for her new career.
A porn veteran now, Christiana believes it’s a mistake to minimize porn’s place in our culture.
“I care about the industry, I care about the people in it and I care about where it’s going,” she declares. That’s important because “the sex industry sets the trend for the rest of the world and the media.”
She explains.
“When there’s different trends in women and in body image, it all starts with pornography, because in porn… or the sex industry… [we’re] showing all of our selves, exposing our bodies.”
She references porn’s best example. “No pubic hair started with sex workers and the rest of America took suit.”
Christiana believes that when people develop self-images that are attractive and sexual, the porn industry is influential in, and inspires, their decisions.
“Our basic human instinct is driven to sex. When they say, ‘sex sells,’ the media and advertising agencies gather that from what we are selling.”
Turning to camming, how does Christiana define success?
Personality and consistency are important, she says, but how entertaining a girl can be when she talks to herself defines what a cam girl does in front of her computer.
The California girl discovered she had the right set of skills for that thanks to being an only child.
“My best friend growing up was the mirror and my reflection. That made me really comfortable with my body.”
In other words, she says, “being comfortable looking at yourself and being yourself [while] filling up the space with something a little entertaining, or sexy or fun,” makes for good camming.
There’s one more thing.
“Consistency” is important, Christiana insists, and for her that has been tough because feature dancing and personal appearances put her on the road.
“Adhering to a specific [online] schedule, especially when I’m in different time zones,” is problematic, she adds, because every cam girl is her own boss.
“Camming or social media, such as selling videos online, doing custom videos, doing Snapchat, Only Fans, Money Bits, I Want Clips” are “platforms designed to put the performer back in power so she’s not relying on a company who has shot her a hundred times,” the seductive brunette exclaims.
Beyond the economics of owning your work, she adds that camming “is cool, it’s interesting” but also “physically taxing and demanding just like a lot of jobs in the sex industry.”
But there are advantages.
“The beauty with cam girls is that they’re a niche market. They don’t have to adhere to what society says is a beauty rule. They set the trend of what they want and as long as they have fun doing it, I think it’s great,” she says. “It’s complete freedom.”
Then there is the new porn fan, young and tech savvy. For them, cam girls fit the bill.
“Think about people who do video games and spend a lot of their time on the computer. They want an outlet” that camming fulfills, Christiana comments.
For the cam girl and her customer there’s another positive.
“When you’re camming, you don’t have to face rejection.”
On the whole, Christiana asserts, “the possibilities for cam girls are endless. There’s something out there for everyone. And it’s safe because it’s from the comfort of her own space. She’s doing it for business choices and for money because this is making her happy.”
Finally, are cam girls and porn stars in different worlds?
Christiana Cinn has her doubts about that.
“I don’t feel there should be a divide in the industry because we’re all sex workers. We are absolutely a part of the same special group of women. We’re all selling an ideal. This is what we do.”
