Things are tough all over in this century for the X-rated industry with the ubiquitous free sites on the web and dismal home video sales. But the genres hardest hit in this maelstrom are bondage, (which found a happy home in online clip stores) and Heavy/Fat, correctly called now, BBWs (big, beautiful women) and Plumpers.
BBWs is a limited niche to be sure, but this writer remembers a huge renaissance 10-12 years ago with plus-sized productions. Reaching its zenith when Red Light District, a top video studio in the go-go years developed a series called Heavy Loads helmed by none other than newly AVN hall of framer, Maestro Claudio. “I remember it well, I think we got up to volume 3 then the recession hit.”
That plumper bandwagon not only included Red Light but Wicked, Evil Angel and Hustler dabbled in the heavier market with mixed results.
Long retired BBW model Jennifer Melons says by email, “A number of bigger girls could make a good living in the biz back then. All of a sudden we had to find jobs, and that was before Uber! LOL.”
I remember talking to 1970s legend Jessie Adams and he told me about this guy that called himself “Wild Bill” who was shooting 8 mm “loops” and very early video of big girls, he had a mail order business and did very well in what was then, a very underserved niche.
Soon there were glossy magazines from Parliament Press and others with heavy-sized fare that were available in the back of news stands and peep shows.
Enter Eddie [last name redacted] also famously known as Loretta Sterling whose motto was, “I’ll do anything for money.” Formed the production company called Fore-Play in 1989 that trucked in the wilder side of hardcore. Fat, Hairy pusses, midgets, menstrual sex (Period Pieces, any one?), and believe it or not, tattooed ladies with the occasional gang bang thrown in.
Nineteen ninety-two Eddie directed the first and maybe only “big girl” tour de Force called, “Life in the Fat Lane” and it became a VHS smash! Life in the Fat Lane 2 followed closely, establishing Eddie/Loretta as the PT Barnum of specialized ephemera.
After a meeting-of-the-minds took place Fore-Play was bought out by General Video West. The new owners hired a young Mark Arnold who was tasked to be Fore-Play’s majordomo. Along the way Mark became Ed Powers, started the Dirty Debutant juggernaut and went on to fame and fortune. But I digress.
Eddie went on to create Filmco (Thomas Edison’s company name of his film trust when he was brought to court on his antitrust case) and Totally Tasteless Video.These two studios along with Channel 69 provided most of the world’s BBW hardcore scenes for the next 20 or so years. But alas faded with the others from the San Fernando Valley hardcore landscape.
Today there are websites for chubby carnal fixes. Plumperass.com is the Tiffanys of big girl fare. Replete with gorgeous models in fabulous outdoor Florida locals, and well shot. The Miami base company is on top of the totem.
On the more sleazier side of the spectrum there”s Los Angeles” jeffsmodels.com which looks like factory/cookie cutter content. If just seeing a BBW getting the shit fucked out of her and her asshole eaten out is your thing, then this is the place to be. No Frills should be their motto.
In Vegas, there is the notorious Christian XXX of pure-bbw.com. I asked Christian about the plumper business in 2019. “I make sales still. But what I really love is just fucking BBWs. They have bodies built for sex, its like driving a Cadillac”.
Theres also a few scattered plumper producers filling the roster. They usually shoot in motel rooms and a lot of time its just the producer and the model, you may get paid or you may not.
For the full-figured set the number of paying gigs are, for lack of a better word, slim-pickens, and most of the gals are turning to the web-cam. BBW model Bella Bendz says, “Lately even camming slowed down to a crawl. I too had to get a full time job. It’s a good job and I still shoot with jeffsmodels.com often”.
The dearth of plumper porn opportunities doesn’t discourage the scores of the ample models still out there working, albeit part time. Velma Voodoo of Portland, Oregon says, “I’ll come down at a drop of a hat for a job or an event. I’m always up for a good time and a good fuck.”
Theres a formal BBW award show called “The Biggies” which has along with the boilerplate categories like Best Sex Scene, special attention is paid to Best Butt and Best Boobs.
Finally, Is this the beginning of the end of the BBW market? The answer is no. There’s always going to be fans of big girls who like to see them get banged hard. If anything, this article proves that the enthusiasm is there with the fans and the talent.
Things are always going to change. Formats and fads are going to come and go, but I’m certain there is always going to be a producer that can and will gladly sell porno by the pound.
