In my last column I reported on the 2014 AVN expo’s first day. The show was great! Sensory overload would be putting it mildly.
The AVN show is almost a distant memory, and the X-Rated Critics Organization (XRCO) Awards is on the horizon. But there’s still a lot of things I haven’t reported on, so here goes:
I just sent in my votes for the XRCO awards. Good luck to those who have been nominated, and I hope those who I voted for win! This year marks the 30th anniversary of the XRCO, and one of the founders of the XRCO, Bill Margold, will be inducting people into the Hall of Fame along side of one of the first “Heart on Girls,” Amber Lynn. [“Amber Lynn at XRCO” linked in the box to the right] The show is an Industry-only event, so I hope to see the stars shining bright April 16 in Hollywood!
Bill Margold also did the Legends of Erotica show at Showgirl Video back in January. This year Summer Cummings, Skye Blue, Mike Horner, Christian Mann, Carter Stevens, and Caroline Pierce were honored. While at the Legends of Erotica show, AINews columnist Rich Moreland leans over and whispers to me, “Nina Hartley said, ‘Porn has no institutional memory. My buddies Raven Bay and Allie James were at the LA Direct booth. [Pictured] I love both those girls! Allie still looks like she should be carrying buckets of milk from the barn. While preparing for the show a few weeks before I noticed a stacked babe named Sally DeAngelo [Pictured] and had my eye out for her. I ran into Nikki Phoenix who has a new CD out. [Pictured] She’s a talented singer as well as a popular pornstar. She hosted a release party for her CD at a club in Los Angeles that I will never go back to ever again! It was Colony Nightclub in Hollywood. I was asked to cover the party by Nikki and they not only didn’t let me bring in my camera but ignored me at the door for 45 minutes, then when they finally looked at the list and saw I was on it, they wanted me to pay to get in anyway. They stopped Nikki at the door WHO WAS HOSTING THE PARTY and made her wait to get in as well! They didn’t even play her CD once the entire night. They were unprofessional and uninformed at every turn. I will never go back there and urge everyone else to have their release parties at clubs who show a little respect for those who bring in people to their club. Devan Cypher from Rising Star PR walks up to me and says Ryder Skye is back and is his new client. [Pictured] I talked to her for a few minutes and found her to be delightful! Ryder said, “I was gone almost 2 [years], with Ideal Image Models now, I just got back so I’ve just started to get things going.” Her comeback debut was at the AVN show. “I’ve been trying to get back for the past 2 years and I’m really happy I’m back.” I ran into Ryder again at the awards show later that evening. She looked stunning in a dress she actually made herself! I was impressed by how upbeat and cheerful she is! I’m really looking forward to seeing her in some screeners. If she’s a fraction of what I saw that night we are all in for a treat!
Charity and I bumped into Savannah Jane [SavannahJane with Charity McLain] who invited us to a slew of parties later that evening. Kurt Lockwood was rooming with her and coincidentally, they were in the hotel right next to where Myles Shaffer and I had a room. I got to know Kurt on the set of Love boat XXX where he played Doc. Charity couldn’t make the parties but I hung out with Savannah and Kurt at one party, then left with Kurt to hang out at one of the bars in the Hard Rock. Then Savannah texts us and says there are naked girls in her room. We went back to the room. There were only four extra girls there and only half of them got naked, which was better than a poke in the eye with a sharp stick.
I went back to Savannah’s room the next morning and thought I’d try those herbal boner pills they were hawking at the expo to see if they worked. I SO regret it! I felt like crap for most of the day after that and am really glad they didn’t kick in when I was up in Savannah’s room. Herbal supplements are one thing, but not the mix and quantity they have in those pills!
