Bonjour mon amis! Comment ca va? Myles Shaffer here. This time around, I had an adventure that was a bit different, it was somewhat of a history lesson, and it was very funny. Everybody, especially those who live in the Greater Metropolitan Los Angeles Area, should most definitely read on to see exactly what I am speaking of. So let’s move along without any further ado.
The Deep Throat Sex Scandal
Thursday evening, January 24, I went to the Zephyr Theater, located at 7456 Melrose Avenue, Los Angeles, California, to cover the opening night of, “The Deep Throat Sex Scandal,” play.
“The Deep Throat Sex Scandal,” opened to a packed house! Even adult film star Rebecca Bardoux was in the audience!
The play does a remarkable job of accurately depicting the actual history of the making of the, “Deep Throat,” film and the prosecution and persecution of Harry Reems after the film hit the streets. Yet at the same time, the play is very funny.
David Bertolino did a great job of writing the play, and Jerry Douglas does an excellent job of directing the play.
The legendary Bill Margold guest starred as the judge that presided over Harry Reems’ obscenity trial in Memphis Tennessee, and he did a great performance. (There is to be two different special guest stars each week, and they will be from both the adult entertainment industry and mainstream Hollywood.)
Another legendary adult film star, Hershel Savage, is not only a regular cast member, but he portrays both Gerard Damiano, the writer and director of the, “Deep Throat,” film and expert first amendment and civil rights lawyer Alan M. Dershowitz.
Veronica Hart, a legendary former adult film star and still an adult film director is also a regular cast member.
Both Hershel Savage and Veronica Hart have also done work in mainstream television shows and films.
All of the regular cast members and stage crew are very talented and quite professional in the performance of their duties.
The casting of the young actor, Marc Ginsburg, who portrays Harry Reems, and the casting of the young actress, Natasha Charles Parker, who plays Linda Lovelace, was brilliant! The young man has a striking resemblance to Harry Reems, and once the actress who plays Linda dons a short black wig, she strongly resembles Linda Lovelace, only in my opinion, she is better-looking than Lovelace was. (Unfortunately, Ms. Lovelace is no longer with us.)
“The Deep Throat Sex Scandal,” has some nudity, both male and female, but no more than what it takes to tell the story, and it is done so tastefully as possible.
When, “The Deep Throat Sex Scandal,” ran off-Broadway in New York City, it was met with rave reviews. I for one hope that it is so well received in Los Angeles, and I hope that the play ends up having a very long run here as well.
The play ran for five weeks in New York City, and the only reason it didn’t run much longer was the fact that the theater went bankrupt and through no fault of the play itself in any respect.
Originally planned to run for four weeks, the play has already been extended for two more weeks. And depending on the public’s interest in and attendance of the play, it could possibly be extended for even more weeks.
I for one hope to be able to do everything in my power to see the play again. Yes, I found it to be that entertaining! (I even went so far as to tell some of the comedians I know at a Hollywood improv theater last weekend that they should definitely find time to go see the play for themselves.)
I highly recommend that anybody and everybody who is able to do so should by all means make plans to go see a performance of, “The Deep Throat Sex Scandal.”
For anybody who is old enough to remember, “Deep Throat,” the play will be a fun reminder of how important the film was in the launching of the sexual revolution and its effect on the betterment of many of our civil liberties today. And for those too young to have ever seen the, “Deep Throat,” film, the play will provide a fun yet important history lesson!
The play is performed Thursday through Sunday of each week and starts at 8PM.
