Owner and founder of Girlfriends Films, Dan O’Connell, has sold the company to his long time Vice-President, Moose, effective immediately. Dan is not going away to a leisurely retirement, however. He will retain ownership of Groundwork Visions, the business that “actually produces all the movies I’ve been doing for Girlfriends Films,” he says.
The new arrangement frees the former CEO to do what motivated him from the beginning of Girlfriends, shoot film. Dan retains an “exclusive arrangement” to continue with Girlfriends and along with famed hetero filmmaker B. Skow will provide the GFF fan with the high quality movies expected of the company.
Nothing has changed on the production end, the same iconic GFF series will continue and production schedules will not be affected.
The deal is a win-win for everyone, particularly Dan O’Connell, who is putting management issues behind him. Opportunities going forward to improve his “movie-making game” are now on the table. The sixty-something can devote his energies what he loves, filming beautiful women having sex.
As the new owner, Moose will continue with his current duties. Dan O’Connell reminds GFF fans that Moose is well versed in managing the company. “Running Girlfriends Films is a very complex operation that includes movie production and post-production, sales and marketing, internet sites, [and] our new GFF cable channel,” Dan says. And don’t forget to factor in overseeing the company’s 37,000 square foot facility in Valencia.
Their relationship over the years has been close as this writer can testify from a recent visit to the Valencia complex. Dan looks for things to stay the same.
“I’m very fortunate to have someone of Moose’s caliber to take over the operation,” Dan O’Connell concludes then adds that his full-time efforts are not quite over. Upcoming is the hectic schedule of the Adult Entertainment Expo in Vegas and GFF’s distribution business that demand Dan’s keen eye and industry wisdom.
