Join us at the New Beverly Cinema at midnight, Friday, as we once again turn back the clock to the days when XXX adult films were actually shown in theaters! We’ve put together an amazing program featuring a classic Mitchell Brothers film along with a selection of vintage loops, trailers and assorted weirdness.
Our main attraction is a beautiful and very rare 35mm print of Autobiography of a Flea (1976), an adaptation of a classic piece of 19th Century erotica that’s one of the best from the ”golden age” of adult cinema. A lavish production with authentic Victorian costumes and sets, the film tells the tale of a young woman’s sexual awakening as witnessed by an intelligent flea that lives on her body.
A ”real” film that’s as much about the story as it is the sex, Autobiography of a Flea has an incredible cast that includes major stars Jean Jennings, John Holmes, Annette Haven, Paul Thomas and John Leslie. This will be another incredible flashback to the golden age of adult cinema, as we grind out almost three hours of 35mm smut. Don’t miss!
If we continue to draw an audience this will remain a semi-regular midnight series presenting rare 35mm prints of classic 1970’s XXX films. We’ve shown biker films, women in prison films, kung fu, Italian zombies, gore classics… And now we present the missing piece of the classic 42nd Street film experience.
Here’s your chance to see golden-age adult films projected on the big screen as they were meant to be seen, surrounded by other fans and freaks. Since the rise of home-video and the internet the viewing of adult films has largely become a lonely solo pursuit, but there was a time when it was a social experience shared with others (which, we admit, could occasionally be somewhat bizarre and brain- damaging).
We think it’s time to bring porn out of the privacy of the home and back into theaters where it belongs. So shut down your PC, unplug that DVD player, and come out to the New Beverly on Saturday for the full vintage porn experience!
