(LOS ANGELES, CA) — ”Throat,” a ”porn noir” remake of the classic film ”Deep Throat” from adult film leader Vivid Entertainment, will be in stores on Wednesday, March 25th. The film has already earned the highest five star rating from Adult Video News and it is even the subject of a Showtime Saturday night reality series called ”Deeper Throat.”
Vivid scheduled the release of the film after surviving a court challenge byArrow Productions, the owner of the rights to ”Deep Throat,” which unsuccessfully sought a temporary restraining order in Los Angeles County Superior Court to bar distribution of the film.
”Throat” is directed by multi-award winner Paul Thomas and stars Sasha Grey in the famous Linda Lovelace role. AVN reviewer Jared Ruttersays the film is ”a whole new take on the porn classic. All that remains of the jokey original is the concept of a woman whose clitoris is located in her throat; the only way she can reach orgasm is” by performing oral sex.
Rutter says the movie ”is porn noir, a dark mystery about innocence destroyed. Swiftly paced and engrossing, it plays like a mainstream movie. All the principals give first-rate performances but Grey’s in a class by herself. She doesn’t so much act the role as embody it. Impassive, mysterious, she radiates what one character calls the ‘light that shines within you, pure and bright.”’
The making of the film caught the attention of producers at World of Wonder, who created the seven-part ”Deeper Throat” series that debuted on Saturday, February 14th. The series covers the behind-the-scenes adventures that Vivid went through with Arrow Productions to get the rights to produce a new movie, which is loosely based one the adult classic ”Deep Throat” that starred Linda Lovelace.
”Throat” tells the story of a beautiful young woman (Julie, played by Grey) found dead in a field with a broken beer bottle jammed down her throat. At first, no one knows who she is, why she died or who killed her. At this point the victim begins a retrospective narration of her life, from work in a peep show and various sordid activities. ”Julie’s tale seems to parallel the real- life story of Deep Throat star Linda Lovelace who, at least from her own account, was similarly used,” Rutter writes. ”Some fans may find the movie a downer, but folks who crave compelling drama with their hardcore sex need look no further. This is adult feature filmmaking at its best.”
