(CHATSWORTH, CA) — The nominations for the 2009 AVN Adult Movie Awards were announced this week with winners in over 100 different categories to be revealed live at the AVN Awards Show on January 10, 2009 at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas. This year’s event is co-hosted by two of the biggest names in the world of erotica, Belladonna and Jenna Haze.

The 26th annual ceremony is the most important and star-studded night for the adult film industry as it rolls out its red carpet and celebrates the best and brightest in the business. Well over 6,000 productions were reviewed by the AVN staff during the year and then again during a month-long nominating process. The event is a Herculean effort treated with the same seriousness as the Academy® Awards. In addition to the movie awards AVN has added 40 nominees in three web categories – Adult Site of the Year, Web Starlet of the Year, and Best New Web Starlet, all three categories are first-time entries in the AVN Awards and show the increasing artistry in this ever growing field.

”With the enormous amount of product being released weekly on the American market, I must say how proud I am of the AVN staff for vigorously watching thousands of titles to come up with these nominations,” said Paul Fishbein, president of AVN Publications. ”Most of the categories have 15 nominees and that is designed to reward the thousands of people working in the adult business. While it may seem to be a large amount of names per category, comparatively speaking, it really isn’t.”

This year’s nominees cover all variety of adult film production and performance: Wicked Picture’s sexy and sophisticated story of a heavenly beauty, Fallen, the no-holds-barred hot wheels of Zero Tolerance/Adam and Eve’s Roller Dollz, the gritty gonzo of Belladonna/Evil Angel’s Belladonna’s Girl Train, and the socially conscious mind of Vivid Alt.’s the Doll Underground. The scope of this year’s awards is truly historic and shows just how far the industry has come from the days of peep shows and stag films.
