(SAN FRANCISCO, CA) — Legendary director John Stagliano is interviewed in a new short documentary about the current federal obscenity case directed against Stagliano and his companies, Evil Angel Productions and John Stagliano Inc. The ten-minute video, produced by Kink.com‘s Behind Kink documentary team, is available free at BehindKink.com.
”John Stagliano is one of sexual art’s great innovators,” said Kink.com Public Relations Manager and San Francisco Sex Information sex educator Thomas Roche, who is also interviewed in the video. ”Time and again, he’s created brave and inspiring work based on his own vision. Every erotic artist can learn a lot from Stagliano’s work, and the fact that he’s under federal indictment should be a matter of concern for everyone who values freedom of expression.” Also interviewed in the piece is Kink.com founder and CEO Peter Acworth.
Stagliano was interviewed by Behind Kink when he attended a private event at Kink.com in conjunction with YNOT.com‘s Cybernet Expo, at which Stagliano gave the closing address. He speaks in the documentary of concern not just for his own rights but those of Americans at large. ”What all Americans have to fear is a crusading government — the nanny state that’s saying it’s bad to consume porno, and we’re going to tell you you can’t, because you’re not supposed to masturbate anyway.”
But Stagliano also sees hope in the future, observing that ”if you look at what the Religious Right’s been screaming about for years and you look at what’s actually happened to the country in terms of the proliferation and availability of erotic images, you have to say that they’ve lost.”
