Rory Zacher and Ron Jeremy have at least two things in common: A career that has crossed over between adult and mainstream, and a nomination for this years’ AVN awards in the non-sex role category.
Rory is no stranger to porn, or to the entertainment industry as a whole. He directs content for Pink Visual – one of the leading producers of adult internet content, and has worked as an adult agent for Lighthouse Talent. Rory also was a cast member on MTV’s Punk’d for two seasons.
It is this unique combination that brought Rory his role in Spunk’d, the movie for which he is nominated. Rory plays Johnny Lightning, the director of the television show “Grundle’s Anatomy” which parodies the show Grey’s Anatomy. Zacher was working one day at Lighthouse when Spunk’d director Justin Kane called to hire talent for the production. Rory mentioned his experience with Punk’d, and the director immediately insisted on casting him in Spunk’d.
The differences between mainstream sets and industry sets are something Rory is well equipped to describe. Owing to the fact that most mainstream production sets are union run, things in general tend to be more organized and professional: better crafts services, more special effects, bigger budgets. There is also much less tolerance for showing up late or high in mainstream settings. Both arenas do have, according to Zacher, a lot of “hurry up and wait” pacing.
Hopefully, Rory will be attending the awards ceremony with his publicist/make-up artist girlfriend Kelly LaBanco this year, as he has in several past years. “If I can, I will” he says, adding that he will be there for the length of the Expo.
When asked about the worst hotel he has ever stayed in, Rory indicates a tie between hostels in London (all baths broken, floor so dirty shoes must be on at all times) and Paris. The Paris hostel room was shared with a man who remained immobile on his side in bed. The man lay facing the wall the whole night, and the next day. Checking for a pulse occurred to Zacher, but he decided against touching the mystery man on his friends’ advice.
Rory’s dining adventures have included rattlesnake, ostrich, alligator and snails. In his travels and diet as well as his career, Rory Zacher is certainly a jack of all trades.
