Well, they say that life is what happens while you’re making plans. The past month has been filled with shoots falling apart, travel plans abruptly changing, and blogs/articles that were never completed and posted. The past month has also been filled with wonderful opportunities, shoots that exceeded my expectations, travel that has made me glad to be alive, and blossoming new friendships.
I usually blog on MySpace, but AINews would like to post “A Slice of Life” from some of the girls in adult, so I’m posting here this time. Here’s the highlights of my recent exploits:
After shooting twice for Diana Devoe, with one of my favorite costars, Tyler Knight, I met Dan Lewis and Bob Fields. We did a fun and quirky shoot together for Bob’s website. I went from having my makeup done by the fabulous Tracy, to doing my own hair and makeup and traveling two hours south to get to Bob’s studio. The shoots were polar opposites but both very representative of the California adult industry- “give the fans what they want”.
Diane has a way of making a girl feel pretty and glamorous and she knows how to get a good booty shot out of you. Bob basically lets you be free to find your inner sex goddess, and he is very into costumes and scenarios. I highly recommend working with them both.
It was off to my hometown, Tampa, FL for the Nightmoves show and surrounding events. I was so happy to hook up with my old pal Dirty D of www.tampabukkake.com fame. D gave me my start in adult and I got to see him and Shawn “Lone Knight”. Then D dropped me off at the Best Western in his brand new Lotus (excuuuuuuuse me!)
I was immediately greeted by my LA adult family. There was a really cool party bus with a free bar and stripper pole. Hells yeah! Every time they blasted “Cherry Pie”, me, Sunny, Pam Anderson and Lisa Monroe would sing at the top of our lungs. I heard there was heavy molestation going on in the bus and strange stains appearing here and there on the upholstery, but all I saw was some nudity and naughty lapdancing. Vivian West did some cool moves on the pole and horizontal hand rails, but Nightmoves Tracy (believe it or not) put all the girls to shame with her stripper skills.
The awards show was a lot of fun, and they kept us fed with a full-spread buffet and cute little tea-time desserts. I met Liv Wylder, Felicia Flint, Lisa Sparxxx, Samantha Silk, Jesse Jane, Trina Michaels, Joanna Angel, and a host of other adult stars. Old faces: Steve Nelson, Batman, Monstar, Sunny Lane, Sean Michaels (whom I met at a convention), Ron Jeremy (palling around with Dennis Hof), and Diamond Jewelz.
Each night when the bus drove our drunk asses back to the hotel, everyone congregated around the pool. I was able to interview Lisa Monroe, Brian Kincaid, Kenny G, Amber Peach, and Devinn Lane. I missed doing a formal interview with Sunny, but we hit the Tampa Lightning game on the last night of the trip. The Lightning lost to the Thrashers 1-0, but I don’t even think the fans noticed. They were to busy crawling over the bleachers and trying to sneak into the box to talk to Ronnie. A couple fans thought Dennis Hof was Ron Jeremy’s body guard! And they asked me and Amber Peach if “the big guy” would let them get an autograph from Ronnie. Ronnie, Trina, Scotty and his girlfriend, Sunny and her manager, Amber, Dennis and Brooke from the Cathouse and I were all treated very well by the forum staff and security considering how much of a commotion Ron’s presence caused.
The pool party at Tracy’s house was punctuated with silly naughty games and the offbeat music of “The Haoles”. The band showed me how to use the steel band drum and they gave free stickers out to all of the tables. The food was island/Florida style barbecue and so was the atmosphere. A few people made comments about what it would be like to live in paradise all year round.
Not long after returning to LA, I was off to Canada for the “Everything to Do With Sex Show” in Toronto. I had a blast! I was at the booth for OSK Productions featuring Black Velvet. OSK always takes good care of me when we do a show or shoot together. I was able to enter into a joint venture with them for their adult tutorials, which you can check out at www.educationalsexseries.com .
It was freezing cold up there! But the show was completely packed everyday. Canadian adult superstar, Katrina B, and our very own sex kitten, Jennah Adams, made the show awesome girl-bonding time for me.
Most of the fan turnout wasn’t like your typical adult convention. The fans were mostly couples looking to spice up their bedroom time. It was very sweet and romantic as opposed to loud and raunchy. Most of the exhibitors were selling sex toys, equipment, and an assortment of videos. I believe OSK was the only production company there and they became the main attraction of the show. The couples dressed up and treated the convention like a special occasion. We were truly touched by the response of the Canadian fans.
There is a different view on adult up there. A lot of the girls easily flow back and forth between adult and mainstream work. I met Maxine X at the show, and she told me about all of the softcore and fetish work that’s available in Canada. After doing a girl-girl with Monika Maple, she verified this information. Maxine and Monika haven’t suffered the stereotypical pitfalls of an adult career. Maxine has her own website and Monika books herself solid. Both girls have only positive things to say about their careers and they don’t have tales of money woes, abusive boyfriends, or repeat rehab stints.
The industry in Canada received praise from talent and producers. The gist? Maybe the rates aren’t as high as LA, but the shoots don’t fall apart nearly as much, they have more perks on set (like food! nummy…) and talent is able to book work more often.
Katrina and Monika have shows on Showcase (Canada’s Showtime) and, while I was at the convention, I did a very short segment for “This Hour Has 22 Minutes” (Canada’s “Daily Show”). We were also interviewed by several Canadian mainstream news programs and publications. I was given mainstream offers during and after the show.
Interestingly, NYC’s adult industry also seems to blur the mainstream line. I think maybe the divide here in LA between adult and mainstream may be a regional thing. I mean, Hollywood has to maintain their stronghold on “legitimate” acting right? But girls in other places can do drama, comedy, and book deals without the fans thinking twice about whether or not they should take the girl’s mainstream work seriously.
My shoots with Amarus Entertainment and Kookoo4Kookoo were hilarious fun! I was allowed to do improv, which is one of my favorite forms of acting work. Amarus has a nice setup in Toronto with plenty of costumes and off-the-wall ideas, but at the same time they make you feel sexy and girly, not silly. I shot with them a few times and left each time with a big smile on my face and an exciting story to tell my Canadian buds.
Of course, most of my time was spent with OSK. Mark is the ultimate boss to work for. He is very flexible, thoughtful, and he can party with the best of ’em! I don’t think the man sleeps. He’s so proud of Black Velvet that we were able to use her to ride to Maxine X’s birthday/adult industry party.
Josh Whellan is the ultimate director! He has a way of making talent forget that he’s in the room and yet he still gets awesome shots of a scene without doing a ridiculous amount of retakes. And he doesn’t need to get you to hold an uncomfortable position for so long that you break connection with your costar. I think he can picture a completed scene in his mind and adapt quickly enough that he really raises directing to an artistic level. He also does the editing for OSK, and is the reason their instructional videos and music videos are so dynamic and expressive.
They have a really cool music video that had everyone dancing and tapping their feet at the sex show. It features footage of this past summer’s LA Erotica convention, and scenes of stars dancing in the back of Black Velvet- including Annie Cruz, Ron Jeremy, and Evan Stone.
As soon as I landed back in LA, and I mean before the plane even got to the gate, I got text messages about the parties going on this week. Once I was reunited with my partner in crime, Bettie Rage (Cum With The Rage!), I had to hook up with my girl Shi Reeves, my homeboy Jon Jon, and my fellow Pisces Ronnie. We all descended on the Dragonfly that night.
Sunny Lane was already in Burlesque gear and she did a really hot dance onstage. Kurt Lockwood hustled to get dressed for his performance with his band, while oblivious photographers snapped away at Nikki Hunter doing a striptease in front of him. She was supposed to be blocking him so no one noticed he was changing! Dave Navarro looked toasted as he came over to greet Ron at his table.
I ran into Powder setting up the KSEX table, Pam Peaks, Taylor Wane, Batman, Tod Hunter, James Bartholet, Monstar (sporting a new mohawk!), Mr. Marcus, Kaci Starr, spotted Mia Rose and Iggy Pop. There were so many people there from the adult and music industries that I think the club went beyond capacity.
Sorry if I forgot any names or left out any party info. I’m worn out and didn’t intentionally leave anything out.
Headed to Montreal soon and I’m looking forward to working with the LA crowd before I take off again.
