(LOS ANGELES, CA) — The Association of Sites Advocating Child Protection (ASACP) believes that the proposed 2257 changes will do nothing to stop child pornography since its hotline data indicates that the professional adult entertainment industry is not involved in child pornography (CP).
ASACP has managed a CP reporting hotline since 1996. Over the last two years, ASACP has received over 150,000 reports of suspect child pornography sites; only 8% of these are new, unique verifiable CP sites. ASACP data indicates that 99.9% of these reports can be attributed to non-adult webmasters or pedophiles, not professional adult companies.
The ASACP Compliance Manager investigates all reports to discover as much information possible about the suspect sites including hosting company, billing company, domain registrar, etc. Most of the companies used by child pornographers are mainstream, not adult.
“The government has the same data as ASACP. They must know that 99.9% of CP has nothing to do with the professional adult industry”, said Joan Irvine, executive director of ASACP. “The new 2257 rules will not stop the production or distribution of child pornography. Adult companies already comply with the current laws; the criminals involved in CP don’t and never will.” Irvine continues, “As I have said before, I wish the government would focus their time and financial resources on apprehending the real criminals and truly saving children.”
The ASACP mission is to help the adult entertainment industry battle child pornography (CP) on the Internet. It provides a CP reporting hotline. ASACP provides a self-regulatory vehicle for its members through a Code of Ethics that promotes the protection of children through responsible, professional business practices (ASACP.org/bestpractices.html). Also, it offers the benefit to its members of monitoring their sites, which proves that its members produce and distribute legal adult content only.
With the implementation of a new technology system over the last two years, ASACP has been able to database CP leads, provide investigative research and details to law enforcement around the world, and implemented technology to proactively analyze and follow the money trail of how the CP operators work.
