(LOS ANGELES, CA) — The association formerly known as Adult Sites Against Child Pornography has changed its name to the Association of Sites Advocating Child Protection to more effectively represent its members and nonprofit status, and work in harmony with government agencies and mainstream associations. The organization’s prior name and site no longer reflected the depth of its expanded mission of “Protecting Your Business by Protecting Children.” in addition, ASACP has launched a re-designed site located at ASACP.org.
Since 1996, ASACP’s primary mission has been to make a difference in the battle against child pornography on the Internet. Its hotline receives more than 5,000 reports of suspected child pornography per month and notifies the FBI, National Center for Missing and Exploited Children and state Attorney General offices of more than 3000 validated CP sites (Red Flag Reports) every year. Many people in the industry requested that ASACP be more proactive. Therefore, it will send Red Flag Reports to hosting, billing, and domain registrar companies, since sites with such images do not comply with the terms of service agreements of those businesses. ASACP felt it was a more expedient method of potentially shutting down questionable sites.
ASACP recently implemented a compliance system to monitor Approved Members similar to the Better Business Bureau and Truste.org, which proves to the government and surfers that the industry is interested in self-regulation. This system provides online validation of its Approved Members and Sponsors status. It also verifies compliance with the ASACP Code of Ethics by spidering for unacceptable terms which denote CP (ASACP.org/press/press0105.html). ASACP is one of the few associations that offer such a benefit to its members.
“The expansion of the mission, the name change and the re-designed site would not have been possible without the generous financial contributions of the Sponsors, Approved Members and the support of the industry for the ASACP mission. It’s been an intense few years of development, but we are finally positioned to maximize our years of experience and new technology,” said Joan Irvine, executive director of ASACP.
ASACP is a nonprofit organization that helps the adult site industry make a difference in the battle against child pornography. In addition to its hotline, ASACP provides a self-regulatory vehicle for its members with a Code of Ethics that promotes the protection of children through responsible, professional business practices (ASACP.org/bestpractices.html).
If you are one of the more than 5,700 sites that take a stand against child pornography by displaying the ASACP logo but are not a Sponsor or a recently signed-up Approved Member or Supporter, please take advantage of the new benefits.
